NDE into Space
by John L.

I was about 28 at the time I had my near death experience. When I tell my strange, wondrous tale to people and friends, I can sense their unease with the subject or they scoff it off as an overactive imagination or dreaming. I guess I'm telling this to your readers to give them a sense that they are not alone, and I hope that they can relate to the scenes as I describe them.

I was asleep in my bed tossing and turning all night long. I'm a rough sleeper and usually use the whole bed to sleep. I started to see visions of my life pass before me, although at the time I thought it was strange; I had no idea what was happening. The visions appeared to be like an 8mm film going real fast, like moving in fast forward. The colors were intense; I can only describe them as like a stained glass window in a church on a sunny day. The images seemed to be going in sequence, from my birth to present time.

In the next vision, I was facing downward (not sure how I knew because the room was dark) hovering over my bed. (In between these vision I would periodically blank out.) After I came out of my blank state, I found myself floating above my house about 50 feet in the air rapidly ascending upward. I had another blackout and the next thing I knew I was in space looking at the earth in its entirety. I turned to look at my current surroundings and saw the moon and the stars. I was amazed at all the different colors of the stars; it reminded me of Christmas tree lights as they were the different colors of the spectrum. I had never before envisioned stars as being other than white because that's how I had always saw them, even in sci-fi films. At that point I thought what a wondrous vivid dream I was having and I felt completely comfortable with continuing this strange dream.

I blanked out again and the next thing I noticed, I was flying through space and could still see the stars. Blanking off and on, I saw that I was moving real slow and the stars were now all red and they traced long lines then I blacked out once more. When I awoke, I saw nothing. It was completely dark and I could not see anything. I thought to myself, how lonely I am. Around that point, I saw a flash of light and out of that light produced three rapidly spinning worlds (similar to Earth) that slowed their spinning and lined up with each other. At that point I was very happy, for I was not alone anymore and they looked like an oasis in a black dessert. They were so indescribably beautiful, I felt drawn toward them, but I was not moving to them. Without hearing or seeing anything, a thought arose in my mind that I had to make a choice of which world would I go to. It was kind of like that old game show where you had to choose what's behind the different doors, but could not see the prize. I was now very disturbed because I could not choose. At that moment, I knew that I was dead and this was the afterlife that I was seeing. I was frantically thinking that I could not die yet, that they are things in my life that were not completed.

After all that, I was drawn back into my body. I couldn't breath and I was choking. The bed sheet was wrapped several times around my neck and I desperately tried to get free of the noose. I managed to pry them off me and noticed that I was soaking wet from sweat.
