Grandmother
Still Listens
by Tara T.
This past June my family and I purchased our home from my step-grandmothers estate. July marked one year since her passing.
Since we moved in several unexplainable things have happened. Three times I have been awakened in the middle of the night to find my grandmother standing in our bedroom (which was her bedroom). Nothing strange has occurred and it isn't a frightening experience, she is just there. One of the times she was standing sort of bent over at the side of the bed like she was trying to wake me up. The weird thing is, earlier that while sorting through some of my grandmother's things, my husband said throw that stuff away, and I said NO, so much of her stuff has just been thrown away and I am not going to do that, I will find a place in the house for these things.
Then there was a drinking glass that belonged to her that had the picture of a little Indian girl on it. Well, my oldest daughter broke it when washing it and we threw it a way. A few days later I pulled the glass out of the cabinet with not even a scratch on it! I even said to my daughter I thought we threw this away. It really freaked us out. I know there wasn't another one because I had cleaned out the cabinets and put our stuff in them keeping only the Indian girl glass.
We had a surprise party for my husband and invited lots of friends and their families. One of the little boys (three years old) was waving his arms wildly on the back porch. When we asked what he was doing he said, "I am shooing that ghost away!"
Lastly, I have a peace lily that I kept from the flowers sent for her funeral. In over one year it has never bloomed. I was talking to my friend one day about the weird things that have happened and I said I thought that all these things were signs from my grandmother that she was still near us. The conversation progressed to the peace lily my friend had from her grandfather's funeral and how it blooms almost continuously, and I said, "I wish my peace lily would bloom, because it hasn't had a bloom on it." Within three days, my peace lily was start to bloom and now it has four big blooms on it! I think it was my grandmother's way of letting me know she is here and was listening!
