Life-Saving Dream
by Ella

One night, I felt extremely restless, like something was about to happen and I couldn't sleep for the chance of missing it. I lay in my bed for hours and hours, wondering what was wrong with me, when, at about 3:30 a.m. I finally fell asleep. The weird thing about me is that I hardly EVER dream.

That night, I dreamt for the first time in about six months. In my dream, my family and I were at a hotel preparing to go to bed, when all of a sudden, the windows blew out and wind swirled all around us. Outside the window, I could see a huge wind formation heading our way, but it was surprisingly warm. In my dream, I remember thinking, "What about the other people in the hotel? I suppose they'll sound the alarm any second now to warn them."

Then, suddenly, I jerked awake in a cold sweat due to the fact that our fire alarm had just started ringing. I ran downstairs and realized that someone had forgotten to turn the oven off, and it had caught on fire. And thanks to my mother's love of the outdoors, the windows were all wide open, letting the wind blow on the fire, lighting up the whole place. No, I don't understand it myself, all I know is that there was a reason I dreamt of an emergency alarm in my dream, and woke up a split second before the fire alarm in our house went off.
