Unsolved Mystery
by Teri Lexa

My story, first of all, is not my story. I saw an episode on Unsolved Mysteries a number of (at least 10) years ago, and I have been dying to find out "the end of the story" since then. Perhaps someone out there knows something.

This episode, about a restaurant owner here on the east coast of the US, in a nutshell, was about a years' long bombardment of horrible, eerie, terrifying phone calls to the restaurant, and was so scary and bizarre I never forgot it. Generally, the calls came from grown men and women who would shout and scream threats of death and other intimidation. Unsolved Mysteries stated it was believed that the calls were made to harass the owner into closing up his business.

The two things I found so chilling were that quite a few of the calls over this three year period would sometimes involve voices moaning, and screaming with real pain and terror, and the other truly disturbing ones were voices of children giggling, screaming, crying and making unspeakable threats. Since these calls were made (sometimes a dozen or more in a day) for a period of years, and involving at least several people, including those who sounded as if truly in pain, it just seemed to me too involved and complex of a scheme to keep its own impetus going as long as it did.

The recreations of the voices on the phone were chilling and awful to hear. It seemed to me the calls were coming from .....Hell. Efforts to trace the calls came up with no more than local telephone booths, but communications experts said the background noises did not correspond to the phone booths. I think one theory involved these calls being "bounced" mechanically, from thousands of miles away.

At any rate, those arethe details as best I remember them. Now if I can only find out what happened from then on... I wouldn't jump when I get a prank phone call!
