Haunting Energy
by Brian

In 2001 my wife and I moved into a house on a fairly busy cross street in Hawthorne, New Jersey. The homes along this street were originally all one-story bungalows built around 1910; however, over the years additions and alterations were made to most of the buildings. After about two years at the home, our neighbors moved out and a young, single father, who we'll call Steve, moved in with his boy, who we will call Joseph. I say moved in, but he actually closed on the home and moved in about three or four months later.

Whenever I spoke to Steve, he stated he was doing some "work" on the house before he and his boy settled in. I thought this was strange, since I had been in the home many times and I thought the finish work was perfect, but to each his own. By the way, I never saw Steve doing much to the house during these three or four months, but I don't pay too much attention to things like this.

Anyway, about a year after he did move in, I was having a beer with Steve and my neighbor on the other side of his home, who we'll call Juan, on his back deck. For some reason or another, we got to talking about the paranormal and ghosts. Juan said when he first bought his house, he had his grandmother visit. She was very much into Santeria and would not pass through the door of his new home. Eventually, she said there was a very evil spirit in the house and she would have to exorcise it. Well, she got some candles and sage and other items and she evicted the evil spirit. Both my Steve and I asked where to, and Juan said that the spirit went from his house and flew to - guess where - my neighbor Steve's home.

With that, Steve went ashen in the face and mumbled that that would explain a few things. Of course Juan and I prodded him and eventually we got the story out of Steve. When Steve and his boy first moved in, Steve told Joseph he could pick any bedroom he wanted. Joseph picked a room at the top front corner of the house and picked the color paint he wanted. While Joseph was upstairs admiring his new room, Steve went down to get the paint supplies. As he came up, he walked to the door of his son's new room and he heard Joseph talking, I mean having a real conversation. Eventually, Steve asked his son who he was talking to. Joseph, with no hesitation, stated that he was talking to the ghost. Well, Steve didn't give much thought about it until the next day.

He was in the second floor bathroom and was looking at the light fixture and was deciding if he wanted to change it or not. When he turned around to exit the bathroom, he saw a black, shadow-like object about the size of a basketball hovering at eye-height about two feet from his nose. Behind this object were two similar, but smaller objects. He immediately screamed at the "things" to get out of his house. He said he did this with pure anger and no fear. The objects immediately flew upward and through his skylight, making the screen rattle as they passed through. The story doesn't end here.

Apparently, my neighbor's brother had an issue with ghosts before at his home in Glen Rock, NJ. He had called in a paranormal group from Princeton, NJ and had success with them, so Steve called them up and they immediately investigated. The team was comprised of a former FBI agent, a psychic and one other person in charge of the equipment. They set up for three days and got some amazing photos and videos of various floating objects and the like.

Eventually the team states that the spirit was very evil and liked the energy it received off of young children. With that energy it managed to "influence" older people in the family. The team exorcised the spirit into a doll and Steve was told he had to bury the doll (with the spirit inside) to keep it away for good. Well, this incident took place during a bad winter in NJ, so Steve ended up burying the doll in a snow drift. Bad move. The spirit eventually escaped and tried to re-enter the house.

One night, Steve heard horrible screaming and banging from the garage in the basement, so he ran down with a bat. There in the garage he heard banging on the foundation wall. He looked closer and there was the very same doll they put the evil spirit in about a 1/3 into the garage through the foundation wall! He freaked out and called the team. They immediately came back and extracted the doll from the wall (no hole was found on the outside) and they buried the doll properly. I have seen the videos and photos from all of this and I swear the doll thing was in the wall with the block formed around it, like it was made that way.

Steve and his son moved in and he never had a problem again. I ran into the wife of the family that lived in Steve's house prior and asked if she ever experienced anything weird in the house. She laughed and said no, but then I recalled what the psychic said about the evil spirit feeding off the energy of young children in order to influence older people. They were two very nice people with two young children. They began having marriage difficulties and eventually divorced, forcing them to sell the home to Steve and his boy. Apparently their fighting got too great for them to handle and they spilt. Funny thing is that as soon as they moved out, they began to see each other, no fighting and they eventually got back together. I wonder…..well, I know the story is long, but as far as I know it is true!
