Stolen Skull
by Nan
This is a story my husband told me recently that took place when he was a teenager some 40 years ago... One weekend a group of the young guys from the neighborhood decided to go out to the desert to search for Indian artifacts. Keep in mind, 40 years ago, there were a lot more things laying around in the desert than there are today (pottery shards, etc.). I don't know all the details about where they went, but it was someplace quite close to Phoenix.
A couple of the young guys found an ancient burial mound on the side of a hill that contained a silver-studded saddle and a skull. My husband was very wary about the find and warned the others that they'd better leave it alone. He himself was a complete skeptic about anything paranormal, but just didn't feel it was right to rob someone's grave. One of the young fellows decided to take the saddle and the skull home.
A couple of days later, one of the friends who had gone on the expedition got a call from the fellow who took the artifacts asking him if he'd like the skull. He said something about his mom didn't want it around the house.... Well, skulls were hot items back in the late 1960s (people used to put candles in them, although most of them were made out of clay) so the friend said "sure." That afternoon after school he put it on top of the refrigerator in the kitchen and went off to his part-time job for the evening.
Later that night, his father came home from work (single dad raising a son) and as he was getting ready to unlock the kitchen door, he heard a deep male voice talking from inside the house. He knew right away that it wasn't his son's voice (and that his son was at work), so he apprehensively unlocked the door. When he stepped into the kitchen he still heard the voice and at that same time noticed the skull on top of the fridge. Only thing is, the skull was "lit up" with an inner glow and it was "talking," although apparently he couldn't tell what it was saying.
Let me tell you that skull didn't stay around that house too long. The next morning, my husband went to help his friend take it back to the desert and place it back in the mound it was stolen from.
