Ghost
Lovers This is the kind of thing weird movies are made about, and I swear on my life and all those I love this is EXACTLY what happened. I was with my boyfriend, and he took me up to the graveyard on top of the hill in Windhoek. It's a beautiful graveyard created by the Germans during the war, so a lot of the graves are of soldiers and their families. We got to the car park and got out, and the whole graveyard has been taken over by feral cats. They are extremely wild and won't let you get any more than a couple of metres from them. There was this gray cat in particular that came running toward us, but stopped about three metres from us and started mewing. It then turned on us and ran a little way forward then turned back and mewed again. When I tried to get near it, it hissed and ran away from me, but then came back and started mewing again. It was so bizarre, but we made a joke saying it was trying to get us to follow it, so we did. All the way, the cat would run a bit, then turn back and meow making sure we were following it. We still couldn't get near it though. Finally, after about 10 minutes of following the cat, we started to get bored and decided it was all silly. Suddenly, the cat jumped up onto a gravestone and just sat there preening itself. I went up to it and this feral thing started purring and rubbing against me like a tame old house cat. We looked at the grave, and it was the grave of a husband and wife from the war. We sat down on the edge of the grave, really baffled. We started talking... then something really very strange started happening to us, and we started to kiss then to make love on the gravestone. (I know, but I tell you it's not as sordid as it seems.) While we were doing it, I suddenly saw my boyfriend not as himself, but as a young man with a leather and sheepskin bomber jacket and brown hair. This really freaked me out, but I couldn't stop. Once we had finished, we were both silent with shock. What made my skin run cold was when he said, "That wasn't you I was making love to. You were a blonde woman in a white dress." I then told him what I had seen. As you can imagine, we were completely shocked. The cat had sat on the headstone the entire time. I got up and went to pet the cat. It hissed viciously and ran off. Two days later, I was leaving the country and have never been back. The guy I experienced this with though went back to the graveyard two weeks later. The gray cat was there again, and it led him right back to the same graves. What do you make of it? Was it two lovers using us to experience each other one last time? I've always kept this secret (obviously anyone else would think I'm nuts), but I've always wondered what happened. It wasn't a horrible experience, just scary because it was so surreal. In way I feel privileged to experience something like this. |
