Haunted by Two Spirits
by Carolyn

There are two spirits at my house. My great-great uncle Vince, complete with Union Army blue wool uniform. We've seen Vince, and smelled the wool of his uniform. He likes to move things and only can we find them when we ask him to put them back. The other is my great aunt Lora, dressed in white, we can see her walk across our yard. She's never been inside, though, like Uncle Vince. Aunt Lora died in childbirth about 75 years ago. Our house sets pretty much where the log cabin she lived in sat. Uncle Vince - not directly related to Aunt Lora - seems to travel this way because this was once a creek-bed road, and he would have to travel this way to get to his old home over against the mountain. At least, this is the conclusions my husband and I have reached. We get along well with our spirits, and we're glad they're here, for the most part. I've told Uncle Vince to move on if he wishes, but he seems to be having too much fun. Our relationship? Turns out Vince's great-nephew married Lora's sister. How did we decide who they were? I knew from genealogical research that great-great uncle Vince was in the Union Army. And when we call him "Vince" we've had him un-do something he's done. We decided on Aunt Lora because first of all, she died in a cabin here, and she's searching, apparently. She died without knowing her baby was safe. I haven't had any success in talking with her, yet, but I'm still trying!
