The
Squeaky Ghost
by Anonymous
I thought you might want to know of a strange (is it really..?) episode that happened to my mother (I was there but don't remember it) when I was about four years old. She was watching me go to sleep; there was no one else in the bedroom. Suddenly, she heard a distinct squeaky step coming from the direction of the door, and then another one and another one, approaching the bed. Then there was a moment of silence, and then the three consecutive squeaks went towards the door. She recognized the sound immediately - it was exactly like my great uncle's walk: he always use to come and see me whenever she was tucking me in. Except he wasn't there; he was in the hospital, and - yes, you guessed it: the next day she found out that he had died the night before.
A similar thing had happened to her when she was about eight years old. She was with her mother in the kitchen, the radio was on - suddenly she said: "Something broke." She ran without hesitation over two flights of stairs to the upper part of the house, directly toward the portrait of her grandmother and grandfather. There she saw the glass over the photograph was cracked, right across the neck of her grandfather. Later that day the family learned he had passed (he died of diphtheria, which effectively means he choked to death).
