Twins of Another Kind
by Debby R.

Maggie S. and I first met as volunteer editors for a nonprofit newsletter. We quickly became friends when we realized how much we had in common: divorced women with a strong religious faith, a passion for Celtic music and a love of nature. The first time I visited her house, I was more surprised. We both had a cat, antique furnishing, a stained glass window that we had installed and collections of angels, antique tea cups and antique books. Our houses looked very much alike. In fact, the more we got to know each other, the more similarities we found. Not only had we been to the same events, she had even watched me dance with her nephew at a concert in another town. We were soon joking about such coincidences, trying to guess each other's favorite foods, books and movies and usually being correct. One day, Maggie brought up the topic of birthdays, and we were shocked to find that we were born on the same date, of the same year, only a few minutes apart, at hospitals within 10 miles of each other. We tell people that we are twin sisters of different mothers. But I'm the older one; I came out first.
