Missing
Time in North Texas
by Kevin C.
I wanted to write and let you know about something that happened about 10 years ago. I thought about it again, because of the Steve S. "Missing Time" story, and another missing time story that another friend read on the Internet, which supposedly happened around the same area at the same time. I'm from Nocona, Texas, and I've seen enough weird stuff around there to fill more than one book, but one day back in 1990-91, I witnessed the incident I'm about to relate.
My friend Andy and I were sitting around bored, when I said that it would be great if fate dropped a couple of good looking girls on our doorstep, and they happened to have some beer with them, since we were out. Not 10 minutes later, we heard a crash outside, and sure enough, there were two of the local girls we knew, and one of them passed off a 12 pack for me to stash before the police arrived.
Some guy from Maryland had rear-ended them, and though the accident wasn't very serious, he was very disoriented. He asked me at one point if he was in Illinois, and I told him he had missed Illinois by a long shot, and that he was in Texas. He had apparently been driving west from Maryland, and at some point before he reached Illinois, he just lost a huge chunk of his memory.
We all assumed he had been drinking or doing drugs, because he was really spaced out, but I found out later that the police tested him, and he was clean. I don't think they ever did figure out how he managed to cross several states without remembering it. The closest interstate out of Oklahoma was I-35, which was about 40 miles east of where he had the accident. He was traveling that direction, so I can only guess that he must have driven west on 82 and then doubled back at some point, or he crossed most of Oklahoma on smaller highways.
