Professor's
Haunted House
by Pearl
Last year, my string bass professor (college music students often have a friendly relationship with their private teachers at the university) asked me to house-sit for her a few times while she was gone. Every time I stayed I felt as if there were invisible presences in her basement, where my guest bedroom and bathroom were, and I became convinced that her basement was some type of check-in place, or a place where many spirits stopped.
One time as I was about to go to bed, I started to get extra paranoid and checked the closets and things. Right before I turned off the light, I felt the presence of a man, probably in his late-20s, early-30s, who was staring at me and and wanted to hold me. I couldn't actually see him. I decided to ignore it and I turned off the light to go to bed. However, I couldn't stop staring at where I thought he was standing and all at once I became convinced he was about to get on top of me or try to hold me. So I sat up in bed and said, "Stop it! Get out!" I felt him seem surprised and disappointed and then turn around and leave.
Several months later, I went to her house with a few other bass students to make some pies. As they were cooking, we sat down and starting talking. Somehow we got on the subject of ghosts and she started telling us about how she knew that her house was haunted because there had been two occasions during which she felt someone hug her very tightly for a long time and she couldn't move, but there was no one there. I became very excited and told her about the ghost I thought I saw and told her that I had told it to go away, and she said, "Good for you!" because she's scared of it and wants it to leave her house. I had been trying to figure out what it was about the ghost's personality that I could sense, but didn't understand, and she said, "It's naive," hitting it right on the money. The other students were a little freaked out. This summer, she decided to move out of her beautiful house for some unexplained reason; it makes me wonder if the ghost has something to do with it.
