Haunted
Firehouse
by Scott
I work as a firefighter in a medium-sized department. I work for 24 hours at a time, and many hours are spent conversing with fellow firefighters about everything under the sun. Whenever the subject of ghosts comes up, many of the older firefighters comment about fire station number 3. Most agree that it is the "nightmare station." Firefighters spending the night in the back dorm room wake up each morning with memories of terrifying nightmares. Other firefighters claim to have seen glimpses of shadows and ghosts, and have heard noises at night. The station is only about 25 years old, but is located adjacent to a small power plant. Many of the firefighters attribute the bad dreams to the electricity being produced next door. One old captain is convinced that the station is built over an old indian burial ground.
One night, I got into bed with a book. To my left hand side were two beds, one occupied my captain and one occupied by a firefighter. All three of us were reading. At one point I heard snoring and looked to my left to see the captain asleep with his hands still holding the book up in the air. He is a muscle-bound guy and I laughed thinking that his muscles were so tight that it kept his arms up. I turned off my lamp went to sleep soon after.
Later on, I awoke in what I describe as a deep trance of fear. I do not know if I was having a nightmare, only that I was now awake and terrified. I was asleep on my side and turned my head toward the ceiling. What I saw was a ghastly white face and torso. What I felt was pure evil and that this entity was trying to somehow attack me. The best way I can describe what I was seeing is that it seemed to be a skeleton-like female face wrapped in a veil.
I tried to yell and could not. I looked to my left and could see my captain still asleep, but now with his arms and book on his chest. I felt like I was in some sort of paralysis and continued to struggle. I looked back up toward the ghost and it was gone. My two co-workers had no experiences that night.
Since then, I have never slept in the same bed. The nightmares have continued and I constantly see things out of the corner of my eye. Its my favorite station to work at.
