Coins
from the Ether
by Annie
I live in an old cape in a small town in Maine. We've been in this house for almost 15 years – my husband, my son, daughter and I. Over the years, I've experienced some strange things, but I've come to accept them. I do believe in spirits. They just don't bother me. What, or whomever, is "residing" in my house is friendly.
Like I've said, strange, unexplained things have happened here. But the most unusual happened about three years ago this October. I was in the midst of planning my sister and brother in-law's anniversy party. It was a Friday night. I had both kids at home with me, and my husband was at work. I was planning this party while doing laundry.
At some point in the evening, I decided I HAD to go throw a load of clothes from the washer into the dryer. When I got to the basement (where my laundry room is), I noticed that the washer was still running, but almost finished the cycle. So I decided to just stand around and wait it out. While I was standing there, leaning against the dryer, deep in thought, something fell onto my shirt. My first thought was, "Oh great, a pipe is leaking!" But when I looked at my shirt, I saw a coin! I leaned over to look at it, and it fell to the floor. As I stood there staring at it, another coin fell on the floor.
I was in such awe at what was happening, I have to admit, I NEVER looked at the basement ceiling. I think it must have been at least five or six coins that fell that night. I picked them all up, looked at the dates, and none of them meant anything to me. So I then brought them all upstairs to my kitchen and put them in the cupboard of safe-keeping. EVERY single one of those coins just...dissapered. I have no idea where they went.
I have no idea where those coins came from. There are slats in the basement ceiling, but, they are too wide for a coin to get stuck in. I've tried time, and, time again to put a nickle, dime or penny into one of those slats, and they always fall out. After 15 years of doing laundry here, don't you think I would have noticed them there before?
