Ghost
of Little Boy
by Michelle
The summer of 1999 was a summer that changed my life forever. It was a Saturday night in early June. My cousin and I were coming back to my house from her's. It had been very hot, so we were anxious to get inside where it was cold. To my surprise, I had trouble unlocking my mom's front door, which never happens. The lights were on inside and so was the television, so I figured that my step-dad was home. My mom's front door had a diamond-shaped window, so I peeked through to see if I could see him in the living room.
As I peered through the window, I saw a little boy sitting on the stairs. I hollered to my cousin to peek in the window, too; I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going nuts. She was just as shocked has I was to see him because my mom and step-dad didn't have any children together, and this little boy looked to be about three years old. He was wearing green overalls and a striped t-shirt. His wardrobe looked to be very '70s.
As we started pounding on the door, the little boy didn't flinch; he just sat there with his face resting on his hands. So we thought two things were happening: (1) my step-dad was cheating with this boy's mother, or (2) he snuck in with someone. So I ran to the neighbors, who were sitting outside, and the gentleman came down and unlocked the door with no problems... but the little boy was missing and the TV was off. Needless to say, no one but me, my cousin, the cat and the neighbor were in the house.
After that appearance of the little boy, the family cat began to act weird. He would jump over two steps to either go up or down the steps; he had never done that before.
