Phantom Black Dog
by Charley

I was 14 at the time that this happened and it was by far the most frightening experience of my short life. On most nights, I let my dog sleep in my room with me, on my bed, but on this night I wanted to ensure that I would be able to sleep as I had an early start that next day. My dog has always had a problem with being alone at night, so I shut her up in her cage in the laundry room and went to bed, promtly shutting the door tightly behind me.

I fell asleep quickly, but I woke up a few hours later, deathly cold. I thought this was odd as it was in the middle of July and there was a bad heat wave at the time. But then I noticed that "my dog" was asleep in the bed beside me, but when I looked closely, I realized this was not my dog. My dog has light golden fur and brown eyes; this animal was black and as I shook it to wake it up, it had red, bloodshot eyes. It growled at me as I tried to shoo it toward the door, and at that point I became even more cold and began to shiver violently.

As I opened the door to let it out of my room, it just dissapeared into thin air, but not before turning its head back to give me one of the chillest stares I've ever recieved. I went into the laundry room after that, and the door was still shut, and my dog was sound asleep in her cage. As I was leaving the room, I noticed on the door that there were scratch marks, long deep scratch marks that had broken through the thin wood of the door. My dog had been in her cage all the while.

I have never known what it was that slept in my bed that night, but it makes me question whether there are other forces, good or evil, that surround us every day.
