Many near-death experiences have similar images, themes, and characters, but each also has its own distinctive qualities. Here are some true stories.
The Choice David G.
I remember the fear of impact (getting hit), however, I have no recollection of
impact or having my body become totally integrated with the bicycle, nor
hurtling over 60 feet through the air and landing in the canal. My next memory
was quite a scene in the hospital emergency room. I was observing my own body in
the emergency room and all the activity going on, except that I was not in my
body. I was above it all looking down. I was feeling no pain. Everyone was
very busy. I knew by their activity that I was in serious trouble. I wanted to
run away from this scene. Quickly, I turned, took one step through the wall so
to speak and found myself in total darkness. I apparently took another step; and
I was instantly in the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. Everything was
white marble and evergreen. The air was so incredibly light and clear and fresh
and cool. This place seemed so perfect in every detail. Directly in front of me,
just a few steps away, was a marble bench which seemed to invite me to come,
sit, and rest. It seemed like only moments while I looked around this beautiful
setting, when I noticed a very warm, kindly, old gentleman sitting beside me on
the bench. I had not seen or heard him come he was just there. A light smile
crossed his face, and I knew he was a friend. He said, Well. youve had a
rough day, as if he knew all about it. I asked, Am I dead? He
smiled to assure me and said, No, you are not dead. Your body is in a lot
of trouble, but it is being well taken care of and you do not need to
worry. I demanded of him: How am I here, in this place, when I know
that my body is back there in the hospital? And Where is this place?
How do I see this place and you, if Im not with my body? How can I be two
places at once? I began to feel very upset. What are you? I
demanded!
- David is given some remarkable answers to his questions, and then must make the ultimate choice for himself, which you can read about here.
| A dot of light started to develop and it got bigger and bigger. I wanted to go to the light and I scared myself because as I thought it, I moved or floated very rapidly toward it. As soon as I was in it, I felt so wonderful. |
Into the Mirror Lee F.
When I was about seven years old, my family moved into our new house that had
been built upon the land on which my mother and her family had grown up on. I
had just got out of the shower and had finished drying myself when I decided to
have a good look at myself in the mirror. To see what I really looked like. I
seemed to be transfixed to my eyes; it felt as though I was looking into myself.
I began to see a tunnel in my eyes. The tunnel had a funnel effect, like traveling
down a tube. The next thing I remember is the most incredible feeling a
feeling of complete peace and happiness. It is a feeling I know that I will only
experience again when I die. (After this experience I have never been afraid of
death.) Everything had gone dark...
- Lee then is given some astounding insight about what this experience might have meant. You can read about it here.
A Meeting with God Donna A.
I died in Jan. 1973 after hemorrhaging a month after giving birth to
my daughter on Dec. 29, 1972. I was admitted to St. Boniface Hospital with a
bleeding problem related to her birth. I could feel the blood running out of me
and it started to pour onto the floor. I knew I was going to die and the nurses
were trying to get I.V. into my arms, but they couldnt get a vein. The nurse on
my left was calling out my blood pressure and her voice started to get higher
pitched as it dropped. She said, Hurry were losing her. I decided to
just give up, and the last thing I thought was, Whatever you will,
God. I felt a terrible bang or flutter in my chest and I felt like I was
choking. I then passed out for nothing more than a heartbeat of time, but in
fact I cant be sure how long it really was. I felt as if some force pulled me
from the very tip of my head inside out and I exited my body from my chest and
floated to the top of the room, but I was looking down at the foot of the bed. I
could see and hear everything that was going on. Now doctors were in the room
and they were trying to place a needle into my neck. I was kind of interested in
what they were doing, but not really, and I thought that my body looked funny as
my mouth was open and I didnt look like me to myself. Then I looked at the wall
at the end of the bed and it started to turn black. The way a movie screen looks
to you except in reverse order. A dot of light started to develop and it got
bigger and bigger. I wanted to go to the light and I scared myself because as I
thought it, I moved or floated very rapidly toward it. As soon as I was in it, I
felt so wonderful and I was amazed that the light didnt hurt my eyes because I
was sure that Id be blind if I looked at it with normal eyes. I was
aware of love such as I had never known on this miserable earth and then of God.
I started to ask questions and I was startled to find I was receiving the
answers at the same moment I asked them. It felt very strange to speak like this. Kind of mind to mind. Love enveloped me inside,
outside and everywhere. I felt as if I was in God.
- Donna then receives some important answers from God, and then a less-than-enthusiastic reception back on Earth. Read her complete story here.
