Fate
Magazine Subscription
First published in 1948, Fate is one of the longest-running continuously
published magazines on paranormal topics in the world. The very first issue
featured a cover story about Kenneth Arnold's landmark UFO sighting about which
the term "flying saucers" was coined. Every month Fate delivers
interesting articles about psychic phenomena, UFOs, ghosts, mysterious creatures
and many other areas of the unexplained. Its popular departments include
"True Mystic Experiences" and "My Proof of Survival" -
survival after death, that is. Fate is a great ongoing resource for
anyone interested in the paranormal.
The
Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits
Author Rosemary Ellen Guiley
- author of dozens of other books on paranormal phenomena - has done a terrific job of compiling tons of good
information about ghosts, hauntings, haunted houses, poltergeist cases, folklore
and legends
in a big, thick book. There are more than 400 entries presented in alphabetical
order with helpful references and cross-references. The best aspect of this book
is that Guiley presents the information with intelligence and credibility,
avoiding the sensationalism that such books sometimes fall into, often offering the
skeptical point of view about strange subjects. It's an outstanding addition to
anyone's paranormal library. 416 pages, illustrated, paperback.
Dogs
That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home
Subtitle: "And Other Unexplained Powers of Animals." Author Rupert
Sheldrake is one of the foremost researchers into the possibility that some
animals - perhaps especially our pets - possess psychic abilities. Just recently
he made the newspapers with his investigation of an African gray parrot on Long
Island that seemed to know what its owner was thinking - and say it out loud.
Sheldrake claims to have compiled more than 2,700 case histories of psychic
animals and presents a number of them in this new book. Dogs, cats, parrots,
horses and other species, he contends, have demonstrated a telepathic connection
to their owners through behavior that cannot be explained in any other way. As
the title suggests, there are dogs that somehow know when their owners are
leaving work to come home, even if it is at different times of the day, animals
that have prevented suicides, and animals that know when their owners have died
or have been injured at great distances. It's fascinating reading for animal
lovers and non-animal lovers alike. 304 pages, paperback.

Ghost
Hunting Equipment
Do you have a friend or relative who fancies him- or herself as a real-life
Ghostbuster or is seriously interested in the investigation of paranormal
phenomena? Then they'll need the equipment the professionals use. The American
Ghost Society has an array of gadgets that many investigators employ in their
ghost hunts. What does the equipment do? It is theorized that ghost phenomena
affect temperature (you've heard of "cold spots") and magnetic and
electric fields. This sensitive, high-tech equipment detects temperature and
field anomalies. Available in the arsenal are: a remote IR (infrared) thermal
probe meter (for measuring temperature); EMF (electromagnetic field) field
tester; a tri-field meter, combining electric and magnetic readings; tri-field
extended range meter; tri-field natural EM meter; an ion detector; a Geiger counter; and a Dr. Gauss EMF meter. Check out the link for more complete
descriptions and pricing. Ghost hunting books are also available here.
