The paranormal isn't the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Christmas. Yet for all the people on your shopping list with a fascination for the paranormal, the unexplained, or the unusual, there are many great gifts available. Here are some interesting choices.
CD-ROMS
The Unexplained CD-ROM
This CD-ROM is not a game, but a multimedia reference to the unknown. Its subject
matter is divided into six sections: Strange Phenomena, Ghosts & Spirits, Mysterious
Beings, UFOs & Ufology, Beyond Science, and Earth Mysteries. The CD covers the entire
field of paranormal phenomena and does so with great graphics and music, original artwork,
photos, film clips, interviews, and animation. A must-have for every paranormal library. Available here.
BOOKS
Unexplained: Strange Sightings, Incredible Occurrences and
Puzzling Physical Phenomena
This is the revised second edition of Jerome Clark's large catalog of weird
goings-on. The book cover everything from ball lightning, Bigfoot, and crop circles to
lunar anomalies, Men in Black, and teleportation.
Glimpses of Other Realities: High Strangeness, Vol. 2
This is Linda Moulton Howe's second volume of her study of government,
military, and civilian evidence that a non-human intelligence is interacting with earth
-
and other strange phenomena. It's based on Howe's years of research, interviews, and
exploration into government cover-ups.
Haunting Christmas Tales
By Joan Aiken and Lewis R. Aiken, this is a collection of nine haunting
Yuletide tales for children that features the story of a Christmas ghost, a haunted
Christmas present, and an old-fashioned Christmas spent in a haunted house.

VIDEOS
The X-Files: Fight the Future
This, of course, is the big-screen version of the TV show, brought back down
to the small screen in the form of a video and starring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson,
and all the other regulars from the show. You must have seen it so I won't go
into the plot. And if you haven't, I'll just say that it is a very well done science
fiction film that contains all the suspense, atmosphere, paranoia, wit, and fine acting
and writing that makes the TV show so popular.

A Christmas Carol
Hey, it features four ghosts, so it definitely qualifies as a
paranormal-Christmas offering. Besides, it's such a great story that no Christmas would be
complete without it. Watch out, though -- there have been so many film versions of the
Dickens classic made that you don't want to get stuck with one of the lousy ones. In my
estimation, there are only two versions that are worthwhile:
- The old black &
white version starring Alastair Sim

- The 1984 version
starring George C. Scott who delivers an amazing performance as Scrooge.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE
Ouija Board
Is it a tool for contacting the "other side" or is it, as its makers
claim, just a game? The Ouija board continues to be a source of controversy among
believers and non-believers, but as long as you don't take it too seriously, I think it
can be an amusing diversion. The game continues to be a best-seller every year and might
make a great gift for anyone you know who won't freak out when it spells out
L-U-C-I-F-E-R!

Ghost Detector Equipment
Don't know what to buy the ghost hunter in your family? How about the latest in
ghost-detecting equipment? I'm talking about EMF detectors, gauss meters, ion detectors,
thermal scanners, and Geiger counters. How can one possibly conduct a serious
investigation without them? Ghosts of the Prairie has everything you're looking for. What could
be better than waking up on Christmas morning and being surprised with the ultimate
stocking-stuffer: a shiny new tri-field natural EM meter!
