Encounters with Angels
At this time of year, there are depictions of angels on Christmas cards, ornaments, and in our favorite movies. But many people claim to have had far more personal encounters with angelic beings. Here are just a few.

Music of the Angels by Sean
After my father got fired, he started beating up my mother almost every night. The sounds of her screams and tears should have woken up my baby sister, but they didn’t. As for me, I just lay there waiting for it to happen and get over with. I couldn’t go to sleep until I knew my parents were already asleep. It was pure torture, waiting in the dark, hoping not to hear my father’s angry voice. I felt bad because I couldn’t help my mother. I was only seven years old. Since I couldn’t talk dad into being nice, I hit him a few times, but it only made things worse for both me and mom. So I stopped trying to prevent the beatings. I just cringed in bed. I wished I could sleep peacefully through it like my three-year-old sister. Then one day, dad got drunk earlier in the day. Even my sister was awake when he started hitting mom. But my sister seemed not to even hear what was going on. She had a beautiful smile on her face. I was shocked. I wondered if she had a vicious streak in her just like dad’s. I asked her what she was so happy about. “The angel music makes me happy,” she told me. Then she said that she often hears it when laying in bed at night. I thought it was rather strange that she could pretend that screams were nice sounds, music even! Our father committed suicide so the beatings finally stopped. After we grew up, I asked my sister about the angel music she used to hear...

  • The little sister’s revelation of the source of the angel music truly seems miraculous. You can read the rest of the story here.
It was as if I had gone deaf or the world had stopped. No birds chirped, no insects buzzed, nor could I hear myself breathe. Nothing moved in my vision, except the shimmering light itself, blazing through the tree branches. I wondered if I would go blind from staring directly at the brightness, but I couldn’t look away.

Contact in the Forest by N.W.
While walking in the forest, I saw sunlight streaming between the dense pine and oak trees. It was one of those Kodak Moments so I adjusted my camera and took a few shots. Suddenly, the illumination intensified so much that I covered my face with my arm. Slowly, I edged my eyes above my sleeve to see what was happening. A brilliant light shined from the sky, so bright and white that no blueness remained. The quality of light was most unusual. It shimmered and sparkled. A quietness pervaded the area or at least for me. It was as if I had gone deaf or the world had stopped. No birds chirped, no insects buzzed, nor could I hear myself breathe. I wasn’t even sure if I was still breathing. I felt frozen in the moment. Nothing moved in my vision, except the shimmering light itself, blazing through the tree branches. I wondered if I would go blind from staring directly at the brightness, but I couldn’t look away again. I was helpless as a rabbit caught in the headlights of a car on a dark night. The outline of a human form appeared, except much bigger than life. It took up miles of sky. It was as bright as the sky, so it blended into the overpowering light. As it came closer to me, it got smaller, until it was only slightly larger than me when it touched my hand. It wore loose white garments that didn’t appear like cloth; in fact, they seemed to be composed of more light, moving and swirling. Gently holding my hand in his, he explained he was an angel and asked me to accompany him...

The Men in the Canoe by Sandie Maldonado
My husband and I moved to Canada in 1982. It was a very difficult time for us simply because we had no friends or family. Coming from a small town in Ohio, knowing everyone and always having something to do, the change was simply horrible. But, after a few years we did meet a couple, Felix and Sue. We became instant friends. Another few years went by and the four of us decided to rent a house boat up in Northern Ontario for a week. This was our first vacation after 11 years of marriage. When we arrived up north, we decided that the men should become the captains and learn how to work this house boat that slept 10 people. Once the men were finished with their instructions, we immediately set out on the lake. My husband Henry, Felix, and Sue all had a few beer and were bathing on top of the boat when we all decided to go down the slide on the back of the boat into the water. This was our second mistake – the first one was having a few beers without respect for the water. Sue is a very small woman – approximately 100 pounds and five feet tall. Felix is not much more. My husband Henry is approximately six feet tall weighing in at 240 pounds. Everything was wonderful – we would slide into the water and swim back up to the boat. After about an hour of doing this, I was tired and decided to go in and make some tea. Shortly after my kettle was boiling, I heard Felix yelling, “Get the life preserver!” Not just yelling, but screaming. There was Sue and my husband Henry a few yards from the boat and unable to swim back. I ran out the back and Felix jumped in the water (without a life jacket on). Felix soon realized that he could not help Henry and Sue because they were too far away from us. At this point, Henry is holding Sue in the water where the undertow was taking them far away. It is approximately 6:30 p.m. at night and there was no one else around. Felix just keeps looking at his wife and best friend and doesn’t know what to do. At this point I ran to the front of the boat and started screaming, “God help us please – they are going to drown!” Right then, I looked down at the side of the boat and there are two men in a canoe. Their first question was, “Do you need us to start the boat?” All of a sudden, this man is in the boat starting it and we are next to Henry and Sue in the water grabbing them up and saving their lives...

  • Who were the two men in the canoe? Where did they come from? The answers might not be so clear cut when you read the rest of the story here where the identity of one of the men is revealed!
