Loren Coleman and Jerome Clark is the one to consult. These are not
mythological creatures we're talking about, these are the mysterious animals
that just might be out there somewhere, including hairy bipeds, lake monsters -
even bloodsuckers like Chupacabras. There are about 200 entries.
2) Harper's
Encyclopedia of Mystical and Paranormal Experience This is a more general volume, and Rosemary Ellen Guiley has done an
excellent job of assembling this encyclopedia of paranormal phenomena, mystic
personalities, scientific investigations and experiments, haunted places and
experiences, and much more. The 660-plus-page volume is nicely illustrated with
photos and drawings, and the write-ups are thoughtful and often insightful.
3) The
Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits For those interested in the facts behind true ghost stories, this large
volume by Rosemary Ellen Guiley is hard to beat. Its listings include famous and
little-known hauntings, details of the cases, the personalities involved, and
more. The book also defines a great many ghost- and paranormal-related terms,
and profiles many organizations involved in the pursuit of investigating ghosts
and poltergeists.
4) Unexplained!
: Strange Sightings, Incredible Occurrences & Puzzling Physical
Phenomena Jerome Clark takes a serious, unbiased look at this outstanding
collection of unexplained phenomena. With plenty of illustrations, the book
covers o range of famous and lesser-known phenomena, including cosmic enigmas,
shapes in the sky, strange showers, earth mysteries, out-of-place animals and
artifacts, incredible entities, and more. He even debunks phenomena for which
there is little or no proof.
