Strange, possible paranormal activity surrounding the making of The Last Exorcism.

Very often when a new film about the paranormal premieres in the theaters or is released on DVD, there is press information sent out to the media that tells about the strange things that happened during the making of the film. Whether these events are true or just stories created to drum up excitement for the film we cannot know for certain. Media hype is a tried-and-true method for generating interest. However, we have no way of disproving them either. Strange things might have happened, as described below. But were they truly paranormal or were they just human reactions to working on a creepy film?

Here is the story from the film's marketing company. I'll let you make up your own mind.

During the production of last year's hit film The Last Exorcism, the spiritual warfare counselor, the features producer, and the audio authenticator reported a number of strange paranormal happenings occur, from flying plates to ghost sightings and contacts, to strange reactions to prayers said to ward away evil. The film is being released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 4th.

As told from the on-set Spiritual Warfare Counselor:

  • The phone went dead when talking to our producers her about her upcoming trip to LA to do the interviews.
  • The batteries to all three of her cars went dead two days before the trip.
  • A plate flew off (or fell) from the top of a shelf.

As told by the film's Features Producer:

  • He continued to get e-mails from the victim and the spiritual warfare counselor over the course of the project to check in and make sure he and everyone involved were ok. They warned about what we may encounter after filming, the dangers of the demonic audio and the danger of the subject matter. They have sent photos of demons and ghosts in photos (that you can't see or that you think someone put part of their finger over the camera lens), to personal stories of cases they are working on (crucifixes flipping over, etc.), and other strange paranormal activity. The victim and counselor strongly suggested we all say protection prayers after filming the interviews.

He followed their advice and said a prayer to ward away evil (not much of a believer, but he has an open mind and a family). Five minutes later his house made a heck of a loud thump. Was it the house settling? He thinks so, but who knows...
  • After the interviews his wife saw a ghost standing at their door when she was home alone. She said it was like he wanted to be let inside.
  • When being tucked in for bed, his child told him not to leave because he was scared of the little girl. Their producer spoke to his wife who said their son had come crying to her earlier in the day and said that he had seen a ghost. He took her to the spot in the house where he had seen the ghost (a little girl). A few days later he woke up and said he was scarred of a dark shadow that passed by his room. He said the ghost wasn't there for him it was there for his mom.

As told by the film's Audio Authenticator:

  • The man who verified and authenticated the audio said his son had strange things happening in his house. Items moving around the house and other strange activity.
  • He also spoke of finding a big eagle feather (which shortly thereafter when he returned to go pick it up it had disappeared) and that an eagle following him one day when he was driving with the demonic audio.

So what do you think? Hollywood hype? Paranormal activity because of the film? Paranormal activity coincidental to the film? People just spooking themselves because of the film?

Also, if you've seen the film, post your review here.
