This photo was taken in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia last fall. I was using a simple Canon 35mm with black and white film while doing an informal ghost hunt through the town. I told my friend Brian how I could make a fake "ghost photo" of him by using the double-exposure techniques one can apply with an ordinary film camera. I used no flash to capture the basic image of the street and buildings where I wanted him to be "superimposed" as a "ghost". I opened the shutter and kept it open for about 14 seconds - so that I would have a strong and still image for the photo background. THEN I had my friend step into the same area and took another photo - on the same film frame - for about 12 seconds of open shutter time. What you'll see in the photo is what appears to be a ghost on the left - wearing shorts! In the distance are my daughter and fiancee, who were ignoring my experiment, I suppose.
I hope this photo not only entertains a few people - but also educates many on how a film camera can be used to truly fabricate "explainable" photographs.
My group is known as Complete Paranormal Research. We investigate Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania, and the West Virginia panhandle areas. I have been investigating since 1999 and lived many years in a house where a poltergeist caused much annoying activity.
