Gettysburg Ghosts

In November, 2011, we moved to a large five-bedroom home three miles from the battlefeild in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Our house sits on the south side of Big Roundtop, and is kind of secluded. The front of the house faces a large meadow with woods running along the edge of the meadow.

As soon as we moved in, strange things began to occur. We quickly found out that our home is haunted outside as well as inside. The first incident happened about a week after we moved in. We were sitting in the living room watching TV around 7:00 p.m. when we began hearing bugle calls just off the front porch. It sounded 8 times over the course of 45 minutes.

The next thing happened about 3 a.m. one Friday night. I had got up to use the bathroom, and I got back in bed and closed my eyes. I immediately opened them again for some reason and saw the area between the top of the bedroom door and the ceiling glowing brightly. It blinked out immediately. I saw it again a week later, but not as bright as the first time.

Another night at around 1 a.m., I was sitting in bed using my computer when very suddenly both of our dogs, who had been sleeping peacefully, jumped up and started barking furiously at the right corner of the room. Other incidents, include scratching on the outside of the bedroom window on the second floor on two different nights, and the toilet flushing by itself while I was showering.

The garage is detached from the house, and one evening as I was coming up the driveway, I saw a man in a gray coat and cap walk around the side of the garage. I got out of my car and looked all around the garage, but there was no one to be found. I think I may have seen the ghost of a Confederate soldier.

My husband and I have both heard horrific screaming coming from the woods on the back side of the house. I don't feel threatened or afraid here, but I will never set foot in those woods. Whatever is here has developed a pattern of sorts. We have periods of a month, sometimes longer, where we have no activity at all. Then the unexplained happenings will start up again.
