In Bed with a Doppelganger

BY LESLIE R.

Two weeks ago, I was getting ready for bed around 1 a.m., as my boyfriend, and I are night owls. He told me he was in the middle of an art project and would be in bed when he finsihed up. This was nothing unsual as he is a graphic designer and draws as a hobby. I kissed him goodnight and climbed in bed.

I woke up a few hours later and rolled over and saw him in bed next to me, sleeping like he usually does on his stomach with his arms up under his pillow. It seemed odd at the time, but I felt an urge to check the time, but pushed it down as I snuggled up next to him. I found it odd that he had come to bed with out shutting out all the lights in the house like he normaly does, and I could still hear the menu screen from the DVD we had been watching playing, but I was tired so I put my arm around him found his hand and snuggled into him.

The next morning, I woke to my alarm on my left side. (I only sleep on my left side when he is in bed with me; when I'm alone, I sleep on my right facing the wall, but he wasn't in bed.) I got up to see where he was, because he never gets up that early, and found him asleep on the couch, the TV still on the menu screen for the same DVD, in the clothes he had been wearing the night before when I went to bed with a half completed drawing under him.

Still not thinking anything was off, I woke him and asked him why he got out of bed, dressed and came to the couch to sleep. He got a confused look on his face and said that he had never come to bed the night before; he just fell asleep where he was. I have tried to tell myself every day since that I was dreaming, but there was no way that was a dream. I could feel him, see him and smell him, and I could hear the DVD from the living room.
