My mother passed away in November of 1991. I was 29 years old at the time. In January of 1992, I received a check from the insurance company. My mother had only recently remarried in June prior to her death. I had made up my mind to share what I received from the insurance company with her new husband.
January 29th. After a long night at work, I lay across the bed, trying to regroup for a minute. I'm not sure if I fell asleep or not, but the next thing I knew, my mother was coming out of the mirror! She held in her hand what looked like a marriage certificate or marriage license. I asked her, "Is that why you were sad when you died?" She nodded her head yes. I asked her, "Were you afraid when you died?"
She replied, "Dawn, I don't remember dying."
I asked tentatively, "Are you afraid, where you're at?"
She said, "Dawn, it's nothing like we talked about. Nothing at all." She turned and walked back into the mirror.
And when I was unquestionably awake, I noticed that my cat was staring at the mirror. And I could smell my mother's perfume. The dream bothered me so much.
I called my mother's best friend and told her what had occurred. She yelped and dropped the phone. Her daughter picked up the phone and I told her what had occurred. She told me that even though it had only been two months since my mother passed, her husband had gotten married that day. No one told me because they didn't want to surrender anything that might upset me.
I kept the entire insurance check. And from time to time I hear her in my head: "It's nothing like we talked about. Nothing at all."
