This obviously manufactured object was photographed on the moon's surface by the Russian Lunik 13 lander. Lunik 13 landed safely on the lunar surface on December 24, 1966; it was the second successful Russian lander. It took photographs and analyzed soil.
This object appears in one of the photographs. Is this a piece of the lander itself that came off of or was discarded by the craft when it landed? Or was this artifact there before?
