My great grandmother grew up in a small town in Montana. I am not sure of the name or how long ago that this incident happened, but I do know that it is completely true. My grandmother would never lie to me about something like this.

This happened to my great grandmother when she was a little girl. Her family lived near a Navajo Indian tribe (not sure if it was a reservation or not at this time.) I had never heard of skinwalkers until I came upon this site and I had always heard this story and, now that I think about it, I think that is what this incident is about.

My great-grandmother and her family were all home one night. Their nearest neighbors were a young Navajo couple that had been recently married. The young bride had been betrothed to this man and so she had not known him for very long.

On this particular night, the young woman came running down to my great-grandmother's family's house, crying hysterically. The family tried calming her down, but she was so insistent, saying that there was something dreadfully wrong with her husband.

As the family peered from their doorstep, they saw lights flickering in the distant windows of the Navajo couple's house. The Navajo woman refused to go back so my great great grandfather offered to go check it out.

The young woman insisted he bring a shotgun of sorts, and even though he thought this preposterous, he did as she said. The family waited and waited for his return. As they sat there, the young woman told what had happened to her.

She had been home making their dinner, awaiting her husband's return; he had been out hunting all day. She lay down for a bit. When she woke up, it was dark but she noticed an enormous figure looming in the doorway, staring at her. She assumed it was her husband and as she got up, a deep growl came from the figure.

She was immediately frightened, but she ventured forward and noticed that it was indeed her husband but it seems he had grown about seven feet tall and took up the whole door. His eyes had an evil red tint to them and he was panting heavily.

That's when he suddenly lunged at her. She said it felt like he was biting and scratching her, and she grabbed ahold of the bedsheets and wrestled them over his body. He let out a great inhuman wail and at that she dashed from the room and ran out of the house.

That's when she came running down toward my great grandmother's family's house and they found her in hysterics.

Now, the family was terrified for the father's safe return and the mother and two oldest brothers went to find people to get help. They soon sent about five more men up to the newlyweds' house and again the family waited with the sobbing young woman.

When the men returned, they all looked extremely pale and shaken. They told the young woman to stay with their family for the night, but that her husband was okay; he just seemed to be in a rotten mood. The next morning, the young woman went back to her own home and everything seemed to return to normal.

But the father then shared his version of what happened to the family, once the girl was gone. He said that he had gone up and into the house. At first, it seemed completely deserted. Then he began hearing heavy breathing, as if a large animal was panting heavily coming from the bedroom.

The father cocked his rifle and inched his way into the dark room. There was a huge white mound on the floor that contained bedsheets and what seemed to be some kind of animal twisted up in them. The father prodded the mound with his gun and part of the bedsheet slipped away to reveal what looked like an enormous bear paw.

At that moment, the other men came in and the creature jumped to its feet. It was the Navajo husband, looking enormous and very angry. He shouted for them to leave, but the men held fast and demanded to know what was going on.

The Navajo husband gruffly explained that he had not been feeling good all day and that he needed his sleep and that he was sorry for frightening his young bride. The men proceeded to explore the rest of the house and the husband seemed genuinely sorry so they left him alone.

The next day, the young woman returned to her home and evereything seemed to be okay after that. They never really got to the bottom of what happened that night, but they knew deep down that something just was not right with the husband and that something evil had manifested and exposed itself to those people. Other strange incidents have happened to them since then but that was by far the scariest. And it is completely and totally true.

Does this count as a skinwalker? If anyone has any similar experiences, please share them.
