Your Predictions for 2009

What readers foresee for the coming year - good, bad and outrageous

2008 WAS A tough year for many people, primarily due to the economic crisis that is spreading around the world. So how are readers viewing the possibilities of 2009? By and large, most of the predictions received foresee more doom and gloom: a worsening economy, unfavorable climate conditions and natural disasters, war, and terrorist threats and attacks – even an end to life as we know it! But there are always optimists out there, too, who predict an economic rebound, new energy sources, and a worldwide unity of all mankind, bringing peace and prosperity. Who will be right? What really happens usually falls somewhere between the two extremes. Good things will happen, bad things will happen. Life will go on and it's up to us to make the best of it.

Here are your predictions for 2009:

BEST INTERNATIONAL EVENT

  • The year 2009 brings greater unity amongst mankind and allows for more wholesome and authentic relationships to develop. Our innate relationship with nature and all living beings enhances allowing us a greater insight into our own natures, way of life and our cyclic rhythm, therefore guiding us back to healing. – Penne
  • Prince William gets married. Prince Harry proposes. – Lorraine
  • People will have a growing concern of global warming, economic failure, nature being destroyed.... More groups will show up trying to protect what is left of nature. – Madison D.
  • Iran will become more democratic because of domestic unrest. A government will come to power that allows true religious tolerance. – Bill J.
  • Many bad leaders will be ousted from their positions and be replaced by boards of advisors instead of dictators. This will occur in Asia and Africa. – Lynne
  • Cheap, alternate energy will finally start making some serious ground by the end of the year. – Danny1129

WORST INTERNATIONAL EVENT

  • It will be the end of the world as we know it, but I feel fine. – socrates
  • A nuclear war which will actually STAY in the middle east – no WW III, but it will adversely affect the entire planet. – Joey O.
  • An older member of the British Royal Family will pass away. Probably a male member. – Michele
  • Natural disasters will cleanse in many ways especially volcanic eruptions in the ocean off the coast off America, South America and Indonesia. New land mass will emerge again from the oceans. – Penne
  • I think that there will be another terrorist attempt that will fail. – Janet
  • I think we’ll have life altering climate experiences that will change the way we live. – Janet
  • There will be another bomb in a place [that] Australian tourists travel to, killing many. – Jem
  • Tension will rise between Pakistan and India, and Japan and Italy will both experience earthquakes. – Jem
  • The world economy will continue to falter, during which time both Russia and China will make power plays to assert their dominance on the world stage. The Chinese economy will lose control of the population and be consumed over the next 5 years with a variety of problems stemming from internal corruption and economic revolts within the provinces. – Isaac
  • The hostility in the Middle East will continue to escalate resulting in Israel launching mini-nukes against Iran and Syria. – Isaac
  • More scandal for the Royals. – Lorraine
  • Increased hostility between Venezuela and neighboring democracies. – Brad S.
  • An act of biological or nuclear terrorism, probably in Israel, Iran or India. Australia will face severe drought by the end of the year. A massive earthquake will hit Indonesia. – Brad S.
  • The "recession" will turn into a world-class depression. At the close of 2009, there will be no end in sight. – thephilosoper54
  • Huge fruit shortage due to the dying bee populations. – Entropian
  • Rising sea levels will cause problems with cities close to sea level, such as Venice. – petrarch77
  • An earthquake measuring 8.5 magnitude will hit the US/Canadian west coast resulting in deaths and destruction. – knockout_jay
