Texas family experiences missing time
The Coast Guard medevaced a family of three, including an 11-year-old boy, today from the Intracoastal Waterway near High Island, Texas. A watchstander a Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call for help over the radio at 4:45 p.m. The family was disoriented and complained that their bodies felt like they were slowing down. When asked, they could not remember their birthdays or weight...

Ghost floats through building's history
Racine - It's no mystery why the Masonic Center, one of the city's historically significant buildings, is enjoying celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The building at 1012 Main St. may not be haunted, but then again there are those stories about the one-time housekeeper still being on the job. The real mystery is the identity of the ghost some say inhabits the building...

Freak show: The call of the weird
"In hindsight," Louis Theroux writes in the prologue to this book, "the nineties may have been a kind of golden age for strange beliefs. In that interregnum between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the attacks on the World Trade Center all kinds of bizarre heterodoxies took root: space creatures were abducting humans from Earth, a secret cabal of bankers and industrialists called the Illuminati were running the world; the approaching year 2000 heralded the Second Coming, or the arrival of a fleet of spaceships from a benevolent intergalactic federation"...

We see ball of fire in night sky: 10 pilots overflying India report to ATCs
Civil Aviation authorities are baffled by reports from at least 10 aircraft overflying India that they had seen a "ball of fire" in the air, about 300 nautical miles south west of Delhi, which is somewhere over Gujarat. Sources have told The Sunday Express that all reports came in almost simultaneously, around 1.45 am this morning, and the matter is being investigated...

Ian Stevenson’s contributions to parapsychology
Although many of us involved in parapsychology have made contributions to the discipline, few of us can claim that we have made fundamental contributions. Not everyone can be described as shaping the course of several areas of the field in such a way that, without that effort, the field itself would have been noticeably diminished. One such person was Ian Pretyman Stevenson, who passed away on February 8th, 2007 (his impressive list of publications appears here). While his work is generally identified with reincarnation studies, here is a more general overview of his contributions...

Ghosts make you less likely to cheat
Here's a nominee for strangest psychology experiment ever, or at least spookiest. Yesterday I talked about the theory that religion, or at least supernatural agent concepts, serve to activate representational concerns, and thus increase prosocial behavior, or decrease selfish behavior. The experiment I'm about to describe was designed to test part of that theory. But given how odd the experiment is, I don't really care what the theoretical motivations for it were. It's post-worthy simply by virtue of its bizzarness...

NASA called in to solve Lakes creature mystery
Experts from American space agency NASA could help solve the sighting of a mystery creature on Windermere. Bowness-based photographer Linden Adams claims to have taken pictures of a large creature, up to four metres long. Mr Adams made his sighting while with his wife Louise looking out across England's largest lake from Gummer's How, near Newby Bridge. The professional cameraman says he took eight photographs of the creature which stayed on the surface for 15 minutes. Mr Adams, 35, said he is now contacting NASA to help verify his pictures...

Jesus tomb claim denounced
Leading archaeologists in Israel and the United States are denouncing the purported discovery of the tomb of Jesus as a publicity stunt. Scorn for the Discovery Channel's claim to have found the burial place of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and — most explosively — their possible son came not just from Christian scholars but also from Jewish and secular experts who said their judgments were unaffected by any desire to uphold Christian orthodoxy...

Search for Bigfoot planned today in Elliston
They're out there, and Stoner's wants you to find them. "Them" are the legendary Big Foot and the Wiley Wild Rainers, and Stoner's Last Chance Saloon, in beautiful downtown Elliston, is offering rewards for their capture today. The search for Bigfoot is an annual event for the small community west of Helena. "Hunters" must obtain permits, kits, legal releases, rules and instructions from the bar, at a cost of $10. The Elliston Fish and Game Commission has authorized only 200 permits for the special hunt, and a prize of $150 will be awarded for the capture of Bigfoot, an elusive half-man, half-animal...

Huge ocean discovered inside Earth
Scientists scanning the deep interior of Earth have found evidence of a vast water reservoir beneath eastern Asia that is at least the volume of the Arctic Ocean. The discovery marks the first time such a large body of water has found in the planet’s deep mantle...
