A professor’s search for the Holy Grail
It was a dark, rainy afternoon in Bamberg, Germany, but Fr. G. Ronald Murphy wasn’t about to let inclement weather thwart his quest. The Jesuit priest, a professor in Georgetown University’s German Department and scholar of medieval literature, was not looking for an obscure manuscript or a quiet refuge in which to spend his sabbatical. Rather, he was seeking the single object that has had the power to capture the imaginations of men and women for centuries, a relic which has inspired works of art ranging from the Arthurian legend and The Da Vinci Code to Indiana Jones and Monty Python. He was looking for the Holy Grail...

Unexplained happenings inside a 340-year-old inn, including reports of clothes moving around rooms, have prompted an investigation into the incidents. Their contemporary evolved offspring may have been reported in the last few hundred years and today as “Sea Serpents.”..

BT's ghost hunter seeks ghouls in Jedburgh Jail
Fright-night at Jedburgh Castle Jail almost lived up to its billing. While most of Saturday’s spirit seekers were looking for further confirmation that there is a sort-of-life after death, I was just after a few thrills. Growing up with the likes of Amityville Horror and the Omen I was hopeful of perhaps my name being scrawled in blood over some walls or a cell door or two slamming behind me…I’d have even settled for a raven shadowing me around all night...

Alaskan Governor describes mastodon herds
“The Portland Press [of Portland, Maine] of November 28 [1896] publishes a long conversation with Col. C. F. Fowler, late of the Alaskan Fur and Commercial company, in which he gives very clear evidence that in the interior of Alaska many mastodons still survive. He first discovered among some “fossil” ivory collected by the natives two tusks which showed evidence of being recently taken from the animal which carried them. On questioning the native who sold it to him he was surprised to receive a full description of the immense beast which had been killed by the natives, a description fully identifying the animal with the mastodon...
