In Annapolis, a miracle worthy of sainthood?
Mary Ellen Heibel, a parishioner at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis, wears a charm bearing a tiny bone fragment from Francis X. Seelos, the priest to whom she turned in prayer when she learned that she had terminal cancer. The treatment for terminal cancer that Annapolis resident Mary Ellen Heibel took at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2004 and early 2005 worked beyond anyone's wildest hopes, wiping out malignant tumors in her lungs, liver, stomach and chest. Her doctor did not expect it, nor could he explain it. Surely the outcome was remarkable, but was it - in the sense applied by the Roman Catholic Church in such cases - a miracle?..

Team makes Tunguska crater claim
Scientists have identified a possible crater left by the biggest space impact in modern times - the Tunguska event. The blast leveled more than 2,000 sq km of forest near the Tunguska River in Siberia on 30 June 1908. A comet or asteroid is thought to have exploded in the Earth's atmosphere with a force equal to 1,000 Hiroshima bombs. Now, a University of Bologna team says a lake near the epicenter of the blast may be occupying a crater hollowed out by a chunk of rock that hit the ground...

Black-eyed kids in Kansas
It was warm for a December afternoon in Hutchinson, Kan., when Katie came home from work in 2008. Katie’s ride dropped her off across from her duplex, and as she stood in the street, her ride moving slowly away, she knew something wasn’t right. “I noticed two boys standing in my driveway,” she said. “One had longer dark hair and the other had his hood up so I couldn't see him very well.”..

Nearly one in five Italians trusts sorcerers
Nearly 18 percent of the Italian population -- 11 million people -- trusts self-styled sorcerers and healers, a consumer watchdog said in a report Monday. The group Telefono Antiplagio found more than 16,000 cases of people being scammed by sorcerers and healers since 1994. There are 155,000 sorcerers and healers active in Italy...

Argentina: A cattle mutilation in Puelches
Another animal was found mutilated in a field in the Puelches region, some 280 km distant from the city of Santa Rosa, the provincial capital of La Pampa. The specimen involved was a Hereford, known locally as "raza pampa" (Pampa breed). The animal presented typical incisions on one of its jaws, and was also missing one ear and inner ear, an eye, and had had all of its anal structure removed. The event took place at the Las Piletas ranch...

Darwin killed off the werewolf
It was Darwinian theory that did away with the werewolf. For much of recorded history, humans have reserved their greatest fears for dog-human hybrids like the werewolf. These beasts were once thought to be real, hiding behind every tree waiting for the unsuspecting traveler...

Sacramento group doesn't always look for ghosts
Brad Smith entered a Stockton home recently when, all of a sudden, he felt an ice-cold grip on his left wrist. There was nobody there to grab it. Smith, who investigates whether ghosts exist at certain locations, said he doesn't know what it was, but it could have been a deceased relative...
