August, 1982; eastern coast of the U.K. I was on holiday with my parents when I had the most bizarre and terrifying experience in a caravan (mobile home) we were renting. I loved the holiday, but hated the caravan as it felt "odd" to me. The caravan was old and in need of a modern refit.
I recall on the third night in my sleeping bag feeling a weight sat over my feet and saw nothing there. The fourth night, sleeping was even more odd. I kept waking up with the idea to drink water, even though I wasn't thirsty. At one point in the night, I sat up to turn over and saw the silhouette of a person near the table. (I was sleeping on one of the sofas.) I just thought it was mum or dad and returned to sleep.
I woke up again and, with eyes still closed, I caught part of a conversation. The man speaking had such an odd voice as it sounded metallic. A lot of his words echoed off into an electronic drone.
The final night before going back home was the scary one for me. I awoke with daylight starting to shine in through the old-fashioned curtains and I nipped to the loo. When I came back, I caught something in the mirror as I passed. A tall figure behind me that had a white face.
I panicked and rushed into my sleeping bag. I don't know how long I lay there frozen with worry, sweating, and listening to every noise. I did at some point drift into sleep and had the most odd dream:
I was underground within a high and vast tunnel that had water flowing through its centre. A tall and thin-looking man was sitting looking at the water. He was smiling and then laughed as I watched him. He wore black, clingy clothing, had a pale face, and no head hair.
As I watched him, he placed a dirty foot into the water, looked at me, and grinned showing pointy teeth! It was at this point that I got the "I`m actually here and this is real" type of dream. This figure nodded and continued to stare at the water and giggle. God I was afraid!
When I awoke, I was the first person to get all they could into a suitcase. When we got home, I felt at peace in my bed and wondered what was in the caravan.
