Modular Home Poltergeist

This is fairly bland as paranormal phenomena goes, but I wanted to share these happenings with your site as a way to vent.

We bought a brand new modular home in 2007 and moved it onto my in-law's farm. We put it on the old hay lot and settled in with our two sons. I've always been a stay-at-home mom and at the time my oldest was in kindergarten and my youngest, who was 3 at the time, was home with me.

I really didn't lend any credence to things that would go missing, such as sippy cups I just put on the counter, eye liner I just sat on the sink, or my keys (repeatedly). I just figured my son might have had them and hid them.

But then the missing things would turn up in places they shouldn't be, such as my keys in the kitchen sink, or the missing eye liner on top of the refrigerator. Weird, but probably explainable.

One day I laid my son down for a nap and had to step out on the front deck for a second (I don't even remember what I was getting now), and suddenly my front door slammed shut. I tried to open it, but it was locked! I hadn't brought my keys with me, as I had just stepped out there and had intended to leave the door open. In a panic, I turned the knob and pulled. My husband was at work with his keys, and my sleeping toddler was inside alone. I was freaking out!

For some reason I said, "Please! My little boy is in there alone!" I know it sounds crazy, but the door popped open. The knob was still locked. I managed to explain all this away, but soon things started becoming a little more obvious. Such as the bathroom door opening and closing on its own. The back door opening when no one is here. The front door continues to lock on its own, so much so that I carry my keys with me all the time.

This past Sunday my kids and I heard this strange sound that sounded like metal grating on more metal. It would get loud and seem to ebb away. We muted all TVs and checked for this sound for 10 minutes, but were unable to locate what could possibly be making it. After about 15 minutes, the sound stopped altogether.

Then yesterday (April 24, 2012) I was sitting in the living room by myself, reading a book. My dog was outside and both sons were in school and all TVs were off. Suddenly I heard my husband's guitar being strummed -- twice! I told my husband, but I think he thinks I'm going nuts.

I'm not scared. I guess I'm still in denial a little. I'm wondering if I should go the extra step and try to record an EVP or just continue to try to find a rational explanation. I will keep you posted if this continues to escalate.
