ARE YOU A believer? Do you think that Santa Claus is just a myth created to charm children and get them to behave? ("He knows if you've been bad or good....") Or do you believe he is a real person who has magical powers and a close association with Christmas?
The evidence for the existence of Santa Claus is largely anecdotal, such as the reader stories that follow. As far I know, there are no credible photos of old Kris Kringle that most people would say is just some guy in a costume. Nor have I ever seen a non-Photoshopped picture of a flying sleigh pulled by reindeer. The evidence of presents delivered on Christmas Eve could be disputed by department store and Amazon receipts.
Yet the people who wrote the stories below swear by their sightings. As paranormal researchers, can we dismiss their claims out of hand - any more than we would hastily dismiss claimed sightings of Mothman or the chupacabras?
I'll leave that for you to decide.
GREEN BAY SIGHTING
I saw Santa twice and St. Nick once (Dec. 6). My Dad was gawking out the window and yelled for us to come. Up in the sky was Santa. My parents' faces went blank and white. I was 8 at the time. I am now just turned 14 and I saw Santa again when I was 12. I went downstairs to peek, and there he was in front of me. He then disappeared. I saw St. Nick completely by accident. I was walking to the bathroom, forgetting it was the night. He came and the stockings were floating in the middle of the hall. They fell to the ground, and that's all I remember because I fell asleep in the hall. And to all you doubters: Santa does exist, not just in your heart, but physically. I got a flat screen TV, computer, desk and a ton of other toys my parents could not have afforded -- no one in my family could. I will always believe. - Anya
I'VE SEEN SANTA - DEFINITELY!
One night when I was about 3 or 4 years old (I'm 12 now), I woke up in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve. I don't know what time it was, but being the bright, energetic toddler I was, I got up and decided to look out the window, which was just a few feet from my bed. Within moments I saw Santa in his sleigh with nine reindeer flying in front of him - and he was flying toward my house! This was no dream! I was shocked and I was worried he'd be mad at me if he knew I was awake, so I jumped back into my bed and hid under my covers. My belief in Santa is really strong, no matter what my friends try to say to me! He exists! - Sydney
A BOY'S PAST EXPERIENCE
When I was younger, I used to be afraid and sneak out of my room quietly in the middle of the night and up the stairs to sleep with my parents. Well, it just so happened I got scared on Christmas Eve, went up the stairs, and for some reason something stopped me. Instead, I peered over the railing in the loft and happened to see what I believe was Santa Claus. I quickly moved into my parents' room, where both of them were sound asleep. This is a 19 year old telling this story and saying I still believe. - T.J.
