I have an engineer’s mind and can figure out most anything I see or hear, and I am especially suspicious of wild tales or phenomena. I do not and was not smoking or drinking anything stronger than filtered water.
On that note, I have to tell my tale. On December 2, 2010, at about 5:20 p.m., an unusual movement caught my attention while looking out across LBJ Lake in Central Texas. I saw this dark gray/brownish hump moving across my view, creating an unusual wake about 3 feet high and leaving very smooth, calm water behind it. (The smooth area was about 50 feet wide and 200 feet long; the rest of the lake had very small ripples.)
I was talking with two of my friends at the time. As they recounted later, I just stopped talking in mid-sentence and my eyes grew as I stared toward the lake. They followed my stare and we all ran to the deck to get a better look.
After a few seconds, the hump disappeared and one of my friends yelled to get my camera, hoping to catch a picture of what we just saw. The other two of us retrieved our cameras, and then the wake changed as it made a circle and then split into two directions: a small one to the left and the larger one drawing away from us toward the local dam. The larger wake dissipated as if it went back down underwater.
The small one to the left totally disappeared about 100 feet from shore. I did take pictures of the wakes and have showed them to many people and never lead the conversation with what I know I saw before getting the camera. No one I talk to has any type of explanation. If the wake had not split after circling, I might have thought that someone on the lake has a single-man submarine, but what we saw did not look mechanical or metallic. The three of us have talked several times and all account to seeing the same as I described above.
If anyone else has seen something unusual on LBJ Lake, please make a post. I am looking for answers.
