The Scream for Help

BY S.K.

My story took place in 2002. I was around 14 years old at this time. My family lived in Alpharetta, Georgia. I actually have posted a story here before about another incident that took place in the same house as the following, of what I can only describe as a monster-thing standing in a doorway. I was telling a friend about what had happened to me and she encouraged me to put up the other major occurrence that happened to me while living there.

It was around 10 o'clock at night. I remember this because I had just crawled into bed. I stayed up for a bit, just reading a little before I fell asleep. I had been doing this for maybe 10 minutes when I suddenly heard, as clear as day, "Help me!" It was a male voice screaming "Help me!" over and over again.

I froze because I didn't know what was going on. It wasn't my dad's voice, but it was coming from the direction of my parent's room, which was right across the hall from me. I got up and ran right into their room. My dad woke up as soon as I ran in. He could tell I was panicked. I could still hear the voice clear as day, yelling "Help me... help me... please help me...!"

I looked at my dad and asked him, "Can't you hear the voice?" By this time my mom was up, too. Neither knew what I was talking about. I ran to the window that overlooked our backyard, as well as our neighbors' backyards, and the street, thinking maybe someone in the street was screaming. I asked my dad again, "Can't you hear the guy screaming? He needs help!" I opened up the blinds and looked outside. Nothing. Then the voice started to fade until there was no more screaming.

Both my parents were sitting up staring at me. I don't think they knew what to say. They were both a little freaked out. I told them that I heard a voice screaming "Help me" and asked if they had heard that, too. They had no idea what I was talking about. My mom told me to sleep in their room that night, so I crashed on the floor in a sleeping bag. I think they were more scared than I was.

In the morning, my dad told me that I must have heard the voice in a dream and ran over because I thought it was real. I told him that I hadn't even fallen asleep yet, I was reading. He never replied and we never talk about it.

I know I was awake, it wasn't a dream. I heard the voice up until looking out onto the street when it started to fade. I want to know if there are any other people with experiences like this. This and the incident with the monster in the closet doorway have both bothered me for a long time. I just want to know what I saw that night, and what/who I heard during this night in question.
