Haunted Houses?My Review
I don't think my 58 year old house is haunted but I wonder if it is alive in a strange way. We love this house and it has treated us well, in some cases unbelievably well. When we first moved in 27 years ago we did a number of renovations that blended seamlessly with the original structure. After 4 years living here we decided it needed more renovations but we didn't want to borrow to do them so instead we opted to put the house up for sale as it had quadrupled in price in the 4 years we had lived here. It sold immediately to offshore buyers with a three month closing. The buyers put down a $100,000 deposit. We were very lackadaisical about looking for new accomodation as the time wound down to closing for a reason I can't comprehend. Anyone else would have been out finding a new home to move into. Anyway two months went by and I received a call from the realtor who helped to sell our home and he said the buyers had pulled out of the deal. I was dumbfounded because they left the deposit behind and just walked away from it. I used that money to do the renovation that we wanted to and we stayed in the house. A few months ago we sold the house and the deal closed just fine at 11 times what I had originally paid for it. However the day after signing the agreement for sale the crystal chandelier hanging over the dining room table came crashing down and broke into a thousand pieces. Thank goodness no one was sitting there. A couple of days later one of the exposed beams in the kitchen split with a huge cracking sound and hung down over the counter. Luckily no one was injured with that little episode either. The thing is, the buyers had advised us that the house will be torn down and a new one built in its palce so theses problems did not bother them at all. We are currently leasing the house back from the new owners until we find a new place to move. By the way when we first bought the house it wasn't for sale. I just saw it while driving by and went to the door and asked if the owner would sell and she said yes! It was almost as if I knew that was the house for me.
