What I saw
My mom and I saw a UFO or some flying object that was round with white lights on its outer edges. It was slowly spinning.
Where I saw it
In 1971, when I was 6 years old, my mom and I went on one of our regular shopping trips to a mall in Davenport, Iowa. It was dark when we began our drive back home to Moline, IL (across the Mississippi River). There wasn't much traffic that night. After a few minutes, we both noticed a circular object up in the sky. There white lights on its outer edges and the whole thing was slowly spinning. My mom slowed the car down while we both peered through the windshield staring at the thing. My young mind was trying to rationalize what this could be. It wasn't a plane and a helicopter doesn't have lights that would spin like that. The object got closer then 'poof' suddenly it was gone. My mom didn't say anything as she started the car and pulled back onto thet highway. Whats strange is, neither of us remember her pulling off the highway or turning off the car. When we got home that night, we realized we had lost 3 hrs in what should have been a 20 minute drive home. My mom and I have talked about this several times over the years and the event still remains a mystery. My mother is very timid and she certainly would not have pulled over on a dark road with a young child in the car. We have no idea what happened between the time we first saw the object and my mother turning the car back on a pulling onto the highway. My father remembers that evening because it had gotten so late that he was considering calling the police (we only had the one car and my mother and I were in it).
Lessons Learned
- Not sure what lessons I learned back then, but today I would say to always write down every detail of any strange encounter.
