What I Did:
On 05-20-2012, around 1:10 AM, while sleeping, my family had woken up because of heavy footsteps walking and running on the roof top of our two-story house.
How I Did It:
My wife heard noises and thougt it was one of my kids walking toward the bathroom. She called out my younger son's name, but the older one responded and said " what is that sound as if someone is walking up and down the staircase?"
My older son heard the same noises and thought it was his younger brother walking toward the bathroom. But since the sound was too long, he decided to get up and was about to explore toward the staircase.
This is when I came in. I heard my older's son responding back to my wife.. so in the back of my mind, my thought was that there might be an intruder in the house. I quickly jumped out of bed and right away, stopped my son and told him to wait for me.
We went downstair to check things out but found nothing, even checked in the front and in the back yard. My son and I went back upstair and found my wife who had woken up my younger son. Together they stood there. My wife started pointing at the skylight above us, and so that was when we heard heavy walking footsteps. I then turned on the hallway light. The heavy footsteps began to run all over on top of us. Scared and all shooked up, I told my wife and kids to stay in my bedroom, and my wife had suggested me to call 911. Of course, I did call and about 20 minutes later, 2 officers arrived where I led them in to the house to check around. They also went to our backyard, but still no sign of anything. I even suggested them to check my attic, which they did briefly with a pistol pointing at the dark opening. During this attempt, another emergency call came in from the dispatcher and so they had to leave. They left us with an impression that it could maybe a 20 ~30 lbs raccoon or opposum.
However, we know what we heard. If not human then it would be coming from a two legged and heavy thing that have made that footstep sound. And without a doubt, it can not be a bird, raccoon, squirrel, or opposum because of their tiny little feet.
Lessons Learned
- We really have no tips to share, other then, we are still in shock of what went on up there, so please advise.
- If we know now of what we could of done then, we could have recorded this whole ordeal.
