Heard Accident Before in Happened

One afternoon, as my husband and I were gardening in the backyard, we were interrupted by the loud screech of tires and then the sound of crashing metal. We dropped everything and ran around the house, expecting to see another terrible accident. (We live on a narrow, winding country road, and have, over the years, had numerous car accidents occur directly in front of our house.)

But this time, there was NOTHING there. No accident, no car, nothing that had fallen from a passing vehicle, nothing that could have made the hideous racket! My husband even walked up to the road and around the curve,to see if the wreck was just out of sight. Still nothing. He was still convinced there had been an accident, and that some one might be hurt. He jumped into his car, to go up to the next road, which ran around behind our house.

He had only been gone about three or four minutes, and I had returned to my chores in the backyard. Suddenly, I heard the same screeching tires and terrible crashing of metal! I dropped my hoe and ran back to the front yard, not knowing what to think. This time, however, my ears were correct. There was a small car, practically crushed by a huge feed truck, and another vehicle had rear-ended the feed truck!

I had already brought the phone outside after the first incident, so I grabbed it and dialed 911 while my son ran to see if anyone was hurt. Thankfully, the passengers, including a small child, in the car had only a few cuts from flying glass!

My husband had taken less than 10 or 15 minutes to go around the block, and as he drove up, there was the accident he had gone in search of... right in front of the house... right where we had heard it happen before! We have often discussed this and wondered how we managed to hear that accident before it happened!
