Mysterious Knocks
by Saleem

I would like to share an experience which still haunts me. I am 37 now and it happened early last year. Scary as it was when it happened, it got worse when I later gathered information in an attempt to find out if anyone ever experienced something similar.

It all happened one night in my family home where I was living alone at that time. It is a huge home with six bedrooms and a basement. At night I would normally lock the door of the hallway that leads to my room and another bedroom next to it. I was going through various Internet sites and did not pay any attention whatsoever to a sort of shaking noise coming from the direction where the refrigerator was. As if someone would shake it hard for a few seconds and then let go. When it continued to happen and got really loud, I got up and checked it and the stuff inside. Everything seemed ok inside. I just concluded that it needed repair. I went back to my desk and continued with the Internet.

The noise continued and got louder. After a while, suddenly I heard a loud knock on my door, as if someone knocked hard with the back of the finger and I saw that the door actually moved, a second knock and then a third knock and I watched the door move forward with each knock. These knocks on my door were an occurrence that my mind refused to accept simply because it was not possible. There was no one here beside me and there was no way open for anyone. After initial shock wore off, I got up and opened the door. There was no one there and the door of the hallway was locked. I checked everywhere but could not find any reason for the knocks(not even a pet). Wind also could not be a factor.

Eventually, I went back to my seat and again carried on with Internet going through sports news and so on. My defense mechanism was awake and I did not allow my mind to recall a dark fear which dates way back (fear related with a door which should never knock because there is no human on the other side). Suddenly a very loud screeching noise made me literally jump on my chair. It was as if something scratched the wooden panels on the walls in my bedroom with a metallic claw. My instant reaction was that there may be short circuit in the electric wires that go through the walls. The voice was repeated a few minutes later and this time it seemed to have no particular direction, as if something was scratching the woodwork and the walls from one side to the other. I again went around allover and to the other bedroom, but I could not find anything that I could have held responsible for these noises.

For the first time I realized what exactly was going on. I came back in to my room, locked the door and sat on the bedside. A couple of minutes later the sound was repeated again and it was so loud, it made me jump again in sheer terror. To sum up, it continued for three hours or so and then slowly it stopped. I could not sleep at all that night.
