Grandpa, Ball of Light
by James

I felt that I really needed to get this story out for all who have lost a loved one recently and need some consolation.

On November 5th 2003, my grandfather passed away. We've lost three family members between then and now, and we are a rather small family as it is. I was in the 10th grade at the time, and I has woken up that morning to discover there no school. My mother and stepfather were going to take my grandfather to the doctor that day for a check-up, as he had developed emphysema. Later on that morning, as I was heading out for the library, I received a call from my grandmother, who told me they are rushing my grandfather to the local hospital because he collapsed. I didn't think it was going to be so serious, and I had no way of getting there anyway, so I just headed to the library. I got back to find my grandma left a message saying my grandfather had passed away.

The funeral came and went, and about a year and one month passed when my uncle passed away in his sleep from a severe heart attack. While we were at his funeral my grandmother said some one of the oddest things to me, something I thought I'd never hear her say.

She told us that in November of '03 when my grandpa passed away, she and her sister (who was in town for the funeral) slept in the middle room upstairs at her house. In the morning hours they were both awakened by a bright white ball of light that came right in through the window. She told us how her sister had been so terrified from it that she just laid flat (and she still will not go upstairs on her own anymore).

My grandmother got up after it floated past and went out of the door. She followed it as it went down the stairs and through the kitchen to the living room where it dissipated. This really gives me goosebumps each and every time I think of it. My grandmother is a sweet old baptist women, and I know it is hard to verify in a letter, but my grandmother would NEVER make up such a story, especially knowing all the pain we've been through with so many family members passing away. Ever since she told us this story i've felt such a warmth, I (as well as all of us) know it was my grandpa. I just knew he came that night after his death to let me grandmother know he is with her, even after his death.
