Haunted Hospital
by  DM C.

After moving from Houston to the small town of Buffalo, Texas, I had to seek employment where I could find it. Country living is a pleasurable experience, but jobs in the medical profession are scarce. I took a job working 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in another town close by, Grosbeck, Texas. The town had a hospital that had the prison contract to give medical care to any prisoner in need. It was also the only hospital near any of the small country towns. It had an ambulance service based there to care for the community needs. On the p.m.-to-a.m. shift there were usually three nurses, three ambulance drivers, one in-house doctor and, most likely as not, there were never more than two or three in-patients. Most nights we had none! The hospital had to be staffed for any incoming cases or emergencies. We would clean our stations, do any and all work needed and have many hours free to await our charges. Often on "breaks" we would go outside to smoke or get some air.

One night, another nurse and I went out for her to smoke and me to stretch my legs. In a darkened area of the front parking lot, I saw a very large black image with red glowing eyes seemingly floating around the parking area. The area was so very cold. I walked over as close as my car and felt a "current or excitement" that troubled the area around the lot. The hair on my arms stood as if by a static electricity charge. My spirit was troubled and I told the other nurse we needed to go back in. She had been watching and stated she felt something weird in the parking lot.

After we went inside, we both looked out the window and saw the red glowing eyes! Needless to say, she would not go back out that night for a smoke. I saw this image several times before I left the hospital for Louisiana In this same hospital, there was a room the maintenance staff had closed off from staff and visitors. There was some type of old sewer system discovered in the ground in that area under the hospital building. The maintenance staff had placed a metal plate over the hole because as I was told, they could not find the origin of the hole and the ground was unstable and could not be filled. Some of the staff had reported hearing sounds in the room when no one was there. This occurred even during the day hours. There would also be a smell of a "hot wire" or something burning coming from the room at times. I had heard a rumbling and churning sound some nights I worked.

I also worked at at hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, where there are reports of a little Indian boy going in and out of rooms on the first floor PCU wing. Some of the nurses have reported seeing him and when they go to check on the room, there is no one there. The hospital was built on an old Indian burial site or so some old timers have reported. I have never been frightened of spirits. Have been curious more than filled with fear. Working one night in a nursing home through agency placement, I definitely "saw" an image of a tall and thin woman with white hair standing at the end of one of the hallways. She was waving for me to come there. As I reached the end of the hall, she disappeared. I was told from others on staff that a lady in the room at the end of the hall had died the day before! Usually in a nursing home, the patients nearly always die in numbers of three. Death is a part of life. I seem to have been one of those blessed people who are let in on its secrets.
