Made the Clock Work
by Marlene
About two years ago, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Being the eldest in the family, I became her main caregiver, taking her to numerous chemotherepy and radiation treatments. It was the worst two years of both our lives and I was hard done by to maintain a positive composure during that time. I had lost my father to cancer at age 12 and suddenly found myself talking to him in my mind, asking him to help me be strong for her and asking him if he was watching over her.
I needed something – a sign. I remembered an old pendulum clock hanging on my dining room wall that hadn't worked in years, so I asked him to use it to let me know he was there. I pushed the pendulum (as I had tried on may occasions in the past) and asked him to make the clock work, and I would know he was truly there.
I went about my housework for a while in the lower half of my home. When I returned to the dining room (where the clock was hanging (and I hadn't really thought anymore about it, just passed it off to wishful thinking), lo and behold, the clock was working and kept perfect time for one full week. It hasn't worked since. I lost my mother in Sept. of 2002 and still think of this, and have had dreams of my mother and father arm and arm smiling at me.
