My
Pal, the Poltergeist
by Ralph
I have had the pleasure to be pals with a poltergeist since I was stationed in England in the 1970s and lived in a thatched-roof cottage called Inglenook in the village of Laughton. It has been seen to the naked eye only by my special-needs son when he was a child, who would play with it for hours or chase it around the house.
What I experienced would be a kind of a vague smoky apparition of a male figure, although family members have seen apparitions of both women and young girls. It has a silly habit of moving things around, making things disappear only to reappear days later, dropping things off shelves and tables, and rearranging small furniture. It does seem to have a liking to small children, playing and making them giggle.
It has followed me from England to New Jersey and presently to Omaha, Nebraska. Since the beginning, it has taken a color print receipt from 1971 as his form of base camp, shall I say. This is an item that I have left behind both in England and New Jersey only to have it reappear after every move. I can only conclude that this indeed is its home.
