Rain of Frogs
by Kerry

Back in autumn of 1982, I was indoors when there was a sudden burst of heavy rain – sounded like hailstones. Grateful I was inside, I just carried about my housework. I was about to cook tea and realized I needed something from the shops. Noticing that it had stopped raining, I opened the door and stepped out to soft squelching sound.

I looked down and the whole ground was covered in very small frogs. In fact, I had killed three with my foot as I stepped out. You could not see the pavement for millions of tiny little dark green frogs. I called to my husband and he came downstairs and we stared in disbelief. Our neighbor was at his door and we asked where they had all come from as you could not see the ground for the amount of small frogs, some on top of others. He said that they came down in the thunderstorm we had.

I looked at our windows and it was covered in smearings of blood, dead frogs lay among the live ones. He told us he had picked some up and put them in his greenhouse to keep. We could not stay outside for long as they were trying to hop in through the front door and, having four cats, this was not a good move on their behalf. Many of the frogs seemed to die as did the ones our neighbor had put in his greenhouse.
