Husband's Presence
by Mitzi

In June of 1993 my husband awoke from a sound sleep screaming. He told me his head hurt so bad he was losing his mind. We got up and I gave him some pain medicine. I called our doctor and made an appointment for noon that day. Being in nursing all my life, I thought he was having mini strokes. When I told the doctor, he also said it was most likely mini strokes. My husband looked at him and said, "No, it's not. I have a brain tumor." We could not convince him otherwise. The doctor ordered a brain scan. We went to the hospital, where he was admitted. A few hours later, the doctor, who was also a good friend to the family, came in and told us that my husband did indeed have not one but three brain tumors.

A few days later, we were told it was terminal and that he had 30 days to live. We spent many a day and night talking about his illness. He told me he would fight it as long as he could. One night about two weeks before he died (he lived 5 months), he said that if there was life after death he would give me a sign. He was my soul mate and he died in my arms.

About two weeks later, I was packing some final boxes to move when I sat down in the middle of the kitchen floor and cried to him. "Dammit, Ken, you were supposed to give me a sign." As soon as it came out of my mouth I heard three knocks on the living room wall. I ran into the room because that is what he did when he needed something before he died. When I entered the room, I could smell him, I could feel his love; it was as if he never died. It lasted for about ten minutes.

The priests from St. Vincent Basscilica in Latrobe, Pennsylvania told me they believed me, which meant a lot to me. Ken has been gone 14 years, and he still comes to me when something is going to happen. The first three years after he died, my friends would visit and say they could feel his presence.
