Story of the Month

The Dancing Blue Lights by Kaye B.
About three years ago, I was at home in the evening with my husband and our eight-year-old Labrador, whose name is Holly. It was a cool October night. As we sat watching TV, with the lights mostly out in the apartment, I noticed Holly sitting at the entrance to the bathroom. She has been known to drink water from the commode, so at first sight I didn't think too much of it. I did get up to make sure the seat was down. It was, so I went back to my chair to watch more of the tube. After a little while longer, I again noticed Holly still sitting at the entrance to the bathroom. This time I noticed that she was looking toward the floor of the bathroom, and her head was making a circular motion, as though she were watching something go around and around! I watched her for about 10 minutes. Finally, I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to see just what she was doing! So, I quietly got up and slowly walked over to the dog and stood right next to her. I looked to the floor where she was looking I could see what appeared to be small beads of blue lights, many of them, going around in a circle. There was no other light source of any kind, natural or other. Yet, there were blue little lights on the floor going around in a circle, many of them spinning. I couldn't believe my eyes! I stood there for a few minutes looking for an alternative light source, or some other explanation. There was none! Finally, I called to my husband, in a quite voice, to come over and look. As he was walking over, I watched the lights just appear to sink into the floor, and gradually disappear! Holly gave her head a shake and just walked away. I couldn't believe it! Here these small blue lights had been going around in a circle for maybe 17 minutes or so, and now that I was going to have a second person that could ensure me that I wasn't crazy, the lights disappeared!

The Vanishing Spectre by Bridgett A.
At the age of nine, I was awakened one night to the sound of screams. It was my sister who was sleeping in the cradle position with me. A man was leaning over us from the right side of the bed, with his arms reaching toward us. In the next bed were my other siblings who watched in fear at what was happening to my sister and me. My parents heard the screams and ran into the room, only to make him vanish in front of them. I have had such visits on about five separate occasions from different visitors in my life.

Useless Psychic Information by ROMNTKLady
I've had two episodes of what my friend Nancy calls "useless" psychic information. When I was in seventh grade, I went with my family to check out a dog that we were thinking of getting. My mother had made all the calls, but she didn't know the dog's name. So on the way over, I think to myself, "Gee, I hope the dog's name isn't Sweet Pea." Viola! That was the dog's name. We had that dog for 22 years. More recently, I had a dream that I broke a glass, and in the dream it had a perfect crescent-shaped break. On waking, I'm loading the dishwasher and I hear, "ping." The dream comes right back to me. I lift out the glass in two pieces - a perfect crescent-shaped break! Utterly useless, but there it is!

The Floating Apparition by Jeannie
I had gone to bed about 11:00 p.m. I was falling asleep when I felt a cool breeze flow across my entire body. I was under the covers except for my face. I figured it was the ceiling fan. But then I had this eerie feeling that someone was looking at me. I opened my eyes to see a blurry, but somewhat detailed figure of a ghostly apparition floating above me - only inches from my face. It seemed to say something, for I could see the lips moving, but heard no sound. I was, of course, frightened, and immediately closed my eyes. I could still feel the coldness, so I turned over to my sleeping husband and moved real close until I felt safe enough to fall asleep again. The apparition was no one that I could recognize from my life. I feel that it wasn't there to harm me.

The Exploding Cup by Fergal O.
It is New Year's Day. An empty cup, which was sitting on the couch, suddenly exploded into tiny pieces. No one was near it at the time. In fact, we were on the other side of the room. My wife said that just before it happened she was looking at the picture of my dear deceased grandmother. Any connection here? I am really perplexed.

Saved by the White Cat by Marjorie L.
It was a dark, cold wintry night, and the changing weather had caused a fog so dense that you couldn't see more than a foot in front of your car. My friend and I were on our way to visit someone who had given us directions to her house. After half an hour of driving, we realized that we had forgotten to take the paper with the directions on it. Our friend's new home was located in a remote rural area in the mountains of western Pennsylvania. As we passed the last landmark before her home, we began to count the dirt trails that intersected with the road we were on. When we reached what we believed to be the right one, we turned onto it and bounced along the road through the forest toward where we thought the house was located. A few minutes into our drive, a white cat suddenly appeared in front of our car in the center of the trail. It looked through the windshield directly at us through the heavy fog. My friend slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the cat. Our hearts were in our throats. We were certain that we had hit the cat and that we'd find it under the wheels of the car. We got out of the car to look for the cat, but it wasn't there. We hadn't seen it move from the spot where it stood in the center of the road, and we were practically on top of it before we realized it was there. I walked behind the car to look, but the cat wasn't there. I then decided to walk up ahead of the car for a bit to see if I could locate it. That's when I made the discovery that the cat had saved our lives. Not more than five feet in front of where the car had stopped was the edge of a cliff. There was no barrier - just a sheer drop off the side of the mountain. We searched and searched, but never found the cat. That dear, sweet, beautiful animal had been a guardian angel to the two of us that night.

The Ghost Wedding by Raul A.
I grew up several blocks away from Sutro Park in San Francisco California, where I had a disturbing experience. When I was around 12 or 13, a friend and I rode our bikes down Geary Street to the park. At the end of the street, where it meets the park, is a bus stop and there's a telephone poll with a sign that says "Bus Stop." When we rode by, I glanced at it because a much larger white sign that said "Wedding Today" covered it up. I didn't think much of it and we kept riding into the park. As we got near the gazebo in the center of the park, we saw a group of people gathered there dressed in '20s-era clothing with big white dresses and black tuxedoes with bowler hats. As we got closer, I looked and saw that none of them had feet, and their faces and hands (as well as any other visible skin) were ghostly white! I thought I had gone insane until I looked at my friend who confirmed that he saw the same thing. At that moment my friend and I rode off back to my house as fast as we could. When passing by the bus stop sign again, the wedding sign was nowhere to be seen. After we got home, I was looking out my front window to the street, and an old sedan drove by with the wedding party in it. As it passed my house, several of them turned their heads and looked at me!

Hearing from Jenna by Woodworth
I was sitting home alone one day watching TV. (Something like communication with the dead came on a talk show, so I decided to watch.) I felt at that very moment a very strong sense of loss and sadness for my elder sister. I don't remember anything from the show - only eight words of the complete show: "It wasn't your fault... I love you." I later shared this with my mom. She said that Jenna would be remembered for many things, but her loving personality was her most outstanding quality. It was reassuring to hear her one more time.

Doesn't Like Being So Psychic by AlphaCryptoRed
I've witnessed innumerable sightings of non-earthen craft - in one case, right outside my window on the second floor. I could look down on this craft, which contained four individuals. All were dressed in white Navy-type frog suits from head-to-foot. Their controls were located fore and aft, and each was a different color (red, blue, green). They were similar in shape to those found on the old B-17s, 19s, and 29s.

He Sees the Light by Gene J.
I've had three light experiences in my life, at ages seven, 15, and 46 - all different, yet the same. At age seven, I was running in a darkened barn when suddenly I was completely surrounded by bright white light and overcome with a feeling that I had been born in the wrong place, that this family was not mine. At age 15, I was standing in a church vestibule with two others. We were talking about our futures when I said, almost without volition, as I had never considered this before, "I think I want to work in the church." As I said that, a very bright, white, softball-sized globe rose out of my chest slowly to eyebrow level where it just dissipated like fireworks do as they fade. The other two didn't see anything and laughed at the idea of me working in a church, as I was a wild and wooly kid. At age 46, I was at a Billy Graham crusade in the top row of the stadium, as I was only there for the experience. I had no intention of participating, yet when he issued his call, I found myself rising, again without volition. As I stood, another softball-sized globe, this time bright gold with markings I couldn't really make out, rose out of my chest and burst in the same exact spot and manner as did the white one 31 years earlier.

Grandfather Still Cares by Bjmooreabc
My mother's father died when I was about four years old. I was very upset with her for not letting me go to the funeral because he was my favorite grandparent. After that, I would have times where just thinking about him would set me off crying. One day, however, as I was going up the stairs, I suddenly heard his voice say, "Everything is going to be okay." After that, I didn't have any more crying spells. Fast forward over 15 years later now. My brother, parents, and I are at the 50th wedding anniversary party for my mom's oldest sister where old family movies that have been converted to videotape are being played. All of a sudden, my brother said, "It was him!" It turned out that earlier that fall, during one of my brother's varsity football games, he had looked down toward the end zone at the start of a play and had seen our grandfather! This happened to him several times that fall, but my brother had been unsure if it really was our grandfather, since my brother had been just a toddler when our grandfather passed away. I have yet to see my grandfather's spirit, but I hope someday to be able to.

There's a Ghost in My House by Pj516
I moved in my home in January, 1991. The first night, I was awakened by a low, wavering voice calling for "John." I sat up in bed and looked around the room, then I went to the window to see if someone was outside. It was a cold winter night and no one was around. I went back to bed only to hear the same voice calling for John. I sat up in my bed and told the voice to get out, that this was my house now. The voice stopped. Several months later, after I got to know my neighbor, I asked her who had lived in my home and told her my story. She informed me that a family had lived there for about 20 years and they had a son named John. She also said the woman had died and the house was sold. John would be in his late 50s now and he was an alcoholic. My eight-year-old granddaughter Jenny shared my home with me. Jenny would come into my room at night telling me she woke up and knew the ghost was standing beside her bed. Also, things would disappear only to then reappear. This went on for a year or so. Then one morning, as I was getting ready for work, I heard Jenny upstairs. She was in my bed, as the ghost had woken her up during the night. I ran upstairs to find a terrified child in my bed. She said she saw the ghost standing beside her and described a small woman with dark hair. She also said the ghost touched her on the leg and her whole body was tingling. Several years later, my son and two-year-old grandson came to live with me, and my son starting missing objects, like scissors, etc., only to have them reappear. Then he began to wake up at night feeling the ghost standing and watching him. She was back. I feel her presence many nights as I sit in the living room by myself. I think we have learned to live with each other now.

Recorded Tunes From the Past by Cyriaque
Bonjour, voici mon histoire. Hello, this is my story. I live in France. I have experienced a strange phenomenon about 30 times. It always happens the same way. Each time I go to bed, right at the moment of lying down on my bed, I could hear music. I thought I was crazy. The simple fact of raising my head would stop the music immediately. I did not know most of the tunes, and I wrote down everything. After many investigations, I found some of them on CDs. I was surprised to listen to music and to recognize all the details I had written about - tunes I did not know at all. Precognition? Madness? Contact with the dead? I have studied objectively different suggestions. I have come to the most probable explanation given to me by the famous U.S. neurologist, Dr. Oliver Sacks, who told me my brain must have recorded the music - even unconsciously - several years ago and, for strange reasons, some stimuli to the brain - maybe due to the position of my head - disclosed them suddenly. Musical reminiscences, he calls them.

Seeing the Future in Dreams by Gunner K.
I noticed there was nothing on your site about seeing the future in your sleep. I have had this happen to me on more than one occasion. On one occasion, I dreamt of a group of people playing poker with rocks at a picnic table in a little sheltered wooded area. That year at camp I was on a kayak trip and, sure enough, the fourth island we stopped at had that exact setting. I didn't notice it until that night though, when six of my fellow companions started a poker game with rocks. I dreamt of a classroom I had never seen with students older than I that I had never seen before either. Ten bucks says I encounter that classroom once I go to college.

Harmless Poltergeist by Trobaugh
My family retired to my husband's grandparent's house in 1974. It had been abandoned for 20 years. From the time we moved in, there were unbelievable things happening all the time. I would hear bed springs that did not exist, hear footsteps across the upstairs floors when no one was home but me, see things move with no apparent reason, the toilet constantly flushing by itself, and many other things. After my husband died, I was reading a book one night and had a candle burning. All of a sudden, the candle went out. I just snickered and said, "Bet you can't make it light back up!" and went on reading my book. A few minutes later, I looked up and the candle was burning again.

John Won't Leave by Kris
I have been in contact with two spirits. One lived in my stepmother's house, and the second in my apartment. I had just moved into a new apartment. I had been there a day or so when I heard a huge bang in the other room. I ran in there to find all my unpacked boxes, unpacked and moved to the other side of the room. I called the woman who had done a reading at my stepmother's house and she said she didn't have to come out to my home. She told me his name was John and he was in his 30s. Apparently, he had some sort of cancer and died, but he cannot move on until his wife joins him. I asked her where in the house he was at that moment. Just then, all the shades in the living room went up at the same time. My roommate, of course, did not believe me, but John made her a believer. He changed the channel on the TV, hid her makeup, etc. As time went on, he became someone we would talk to, (crazy, huh?) and my cat and dogs would play with him, chasing him around the house. About five months later, the woman called me to see how things were going. She said John didn't like my roommate, but was extremely protective of me; I was some sort of channel for him.

Colored Rain by whopi
In November 1999, my friend David and I were on our way to our regular meditation night. There were a few delays, so we left later than usual. As we were driving along, I kept looking at the sky as if I was looking for something. I had no idea what. David, although open to some things, is very skeptical in others. It was he who saw the rainbow first. It was only part of a rainbow, but very vivid in color. When I looked closer, there were really two rainbows; the second was not as bright and it was a mirror image of the first. The colors went the other way. As we came around the corner, David said, "Wow! Look at that!" The rainbow had grown across the sky and it was raining colored rain coming from the different colors of the rainbow. To the right of the rainbow was a huge circle of brilliant, white light. The rainbow actually split into three complete rainbows, one below the other, spanned across the sky and joined together at the end. I have never seen anything like that before.

Mysterious Craft by Steve W.
When I was about 15, my friends and I would play games of hide and seek or "capture the flag" on a golf course near our homes. On one particular evening, I was walking along the edge of a watertrap, looking out for pursuers, when something in the sky caught my eye. It was a very bright, single, white light. It came closer and closer, but made no sound. Eventually, it moved passed me and one of my friends that had shown up. It hovered in an oblong pattern over the golf course and back out across the bay, which the course sat on. But this was not the oddest part. While we watched the light move out over the water, another "craft" appeared over the trees to the east and flew directly over our heads. At the time, I thought it was a fighter aircraft, and it did indeed seem to be following the "light." The thing I could not figure out was what a fighter was doing there. This was Long Island, N.Y. and there were no fighter bases nearby. I am now in the USAF, and I can tell you now that it was not a fighter jet. I'm still not sure exactly what it was, but I have seen every USAF aircraft in the inventory flying day and night, and I cannot place this one.

Ghost of the Widow by J.S.
My parents, my two older sisters and I lived in a house for several years that my mother swears was haunted. On one day in particular, she was sitting at the dining room table working on a rug she was making, when she heard a noise coming from my oldest sister's bedroom. She described it as sounding like someone was jumping up and down on the bed. My mother believes it is the ghost of the woman who lived in the house before we bought it, and that she resented mom for taking over as "the woman of the house." Our neighbors told us she was an elderly widow who died in the house. My mother and father used to watch a little boy on a regular basis. While sitting on the kitchen floor playing, he asked my mother who the lady was that was in the hallway. The only other person in the house at the time was my father. We also had a dog who would stand at the top of the living room stairs and bark wildly for no apparent reason.

Breath of the Lion by CKENT19
It was about a year ago when I was lying in my bed. I was almost asleep. I felt like something big walked into my room! My eyes were shut and I was afraid to open them. Then this thing walked on my bed and the bed sunk down. I felt the breath of a lion on my face and heard it breathing. I couldn't move. All I could do was call on the name of Jesus, and when I said that name, my bed immediately rose back up and the lion left. How do I know it was a lion? The Bible says that the devil is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If it wasn't for the precious name of Jesus, I sometimes wonder what might have happened.

Psychic Lotto Winner by Justyn V.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a dream. I woke and could remember that I won the lotto. It was only the three-number lotto, but I won it in my dream. I remembered that the numbers were either 4-2-1 or 4-2-5. So I went to the store; I had never played the three-number lotto before. I had to get the rules from the store clerk (how much it pays and costs). So I played my numbers and they came out 1-2-4. I won $40.

Poltergeist in Bed by Anonymous
My husband and I just retired from the USN after serving 23 years, and decided to relocate to upstate N.Y. to live close to my family. We purchased a run-down house in the country and recently had it renovated. As of December first, when my husband finally was discharged, we have been going through some awful things. (I am a mother of two grown children, and have two grandkids.) I went to bed one night only to feel someone else getting in bed with us! This felt like a 40- to 60-lb. person. Then the walking, crawling, and pounding on the bed started. It kept me awake for several hours, until I had to get out of bed. Of course, the fear I've had is warranted. I called investigators in to search for proof, and yes, they have found evidence, such as in pictures, recordings, and two psychics have offered their opinions.

Weird Blue Light by Leandra J.
I really like your site. It's very organized and really cool. Anyway, I stumbled across one of your features about loud booms and such and it reminded me of something that, unfortunately, I did not witness, but my boyfriend and best friend did. They were spending the night at my house (in San Jose, Calif.) and I was really tired so I went to sleep early. It was a clear night in the early fall. I guess they stayed up all night sitting outside in my front yard talking and smoking. Around 4 a.m., they said they saw a huge blue light literally envelope the sky. They said it started out like a tiny arc, or semicircle and just expanded upwards. After that they said they heard a loud booming and rumbling. It happened one more time right after the first one. They said it seemed to come from Mt. Hamilton, which is about 20 miles or so to the northeast. They told me all this the next morning and I started calling all these places to find out if anyone else had seen or reported it. No one had. I even called the park service and got accused of being drunk. Well, I forgot about it and then, like, last year, the boyfriend of another friend who lived across the street told me he had seen the same thing, but only a couple of weeks before! He was telling me how one night a few years ago he was driving around Mt Hamilton looking for a place to smoke or something, and he ended up driving on one of those back roads. There was an electric fence and a "keep out" sign. I guess he was curious, so he parked his car and started walking toward the fence. Within two minutes, a car drove up from the opposite side of the fence and some guys got out of a car holding guns. He had to leave immediately. His theory on it was that it was some sort of military base or something. Do you think there is some sort of connection with the blue lights and the guys with guns?

Saved by a '74 Chevy Vega by Kathy K.
April 3, 1974 was the day the tornados hit parts of the Midwest and almost totally destroyed Xenia, Ohio. It was also my birthday. I was living in Cincinnati at the time. I had a new 1974 Chevy Vega and had just left the dealership after having its 3,000-mile check-up. The gas tank was full. I worked just across the border in Indiana. The fastest route was down Bridgetown Road. I was stopped at a traffic light across the street from a Catholic Church. When the light turned green, the car would not go. Traffic was backing up. People from the house where I was stalled came out and pushed my car into their driveway. My brother-in-law happened to be a couple of vehicles behind me and when he saw it was me that was having the problem, he parked his van and came to help. The people stated that a tornado was coming and for us to get in their basement, which we did. When it appeared to be safe, we went back upstairs. I went out to my car and it started up immediately! Had I proceeded to Bridgetown Road, I would surely have been in dire straits. Bridgetown Road was the hardest hit area in Cincinnati. Cars were crushed. People died. I have since tried to find the people and thank them for their help. I cannot find a house in the spot where I was stalled. There are houses around, but not in the exact spot I remember and none that look like the one the people came out of.

The Cry of Bigfoot by Mike C.
Almost 20 years ago, I was getting acquainted with some new co-workers at the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in Vienna, Virginia. In the course of the conversation, we discovered that we were all local Washingtonians and had grown up in the same basic area - a region that bordered the army's Fort Belvoir, a vast tract of land that had once been part the equally huge estate of George Washington, known as Mount Vernon. We swapped local memories of this and that, and then I mentioned something that used to happen every fall near my parent's house in Franconia. Their house was perched on the edge of a gravel pit that joined that Fort Belvoir property, and in the fall evenings, beginning just after dusk, you could hear the most unearthly howl coming up from somewhere deep in the woods. Every year, year after year, an animal noise rose up nightly that seemed to always originate from a couple of miles away, and if you had been unlucky enough to be standing next to it, it would surely burst your eardrums, or that's what I'd told my new co-workers with a chuckle. "You ever hear anything like that when you we're a kid?" I asked Jack and Sally, a writer and graphic designer respectively, for Ranger Rick, a children's magazine published by the NWF. Both sets of eyes had grown huge during my tale, and Jack simply replied, "It's Bigfoot, and I want you to hear something." He disappeared into his office and came back with a tape player, pressed "on" and we listened to someone in the hills of North Carolina relate a story much like the one I'd told. But this tape also included a recording that the interviewee had made of his own autumn howler somewhere near Boone. My jaw fell when I heard what might as well have been the exact cry that for years reverberated throughout the Northern Virginia woods. Jack had always heard it, too, and for many years collected what he called "evidence" of the existence of a local variety of Bigfoot corroborated by old slave legends. He and Sally were "cryptozoologists" and members of a larger society of similarly inclined folks. They were absolutely convinced, and reported their exhaustively collected findings to this society in the hopes of being taken seriously one day.

The Neighbor's Drawing by Amber T.
We were living in Sicily, stationed in the Navy. It was summer and we did not have air conditioning. We slept with the full-length windows and doors open. We also basically slept in our underwear because it was so hot. (This will be important in a minute.) I woke up and was told I had been screaming. I was terrified. I ran to the living room and sat shaking. My husband came in and was behind the couch rubbing my back trying to comfort me. I would not turn to look at him. He asked why and I was afraid he would look like a monster. This was all very unsettling. We had two cats at the time, and for about a week they would not come around us. My husband said his throat hurt for a couple of days, he figured from the screaming. We asked our neighbors if they heard us and they had not heard anything. A couple of weeks later, a coworker of mine invited me over. She lived in the building next to us. She wanted to discuss something. (She was very strict with her children and television watching. Basically, they only watched Disney movies.) Her son had drawn a picture. It was looking out his window and up on the roof of another building. Our building was a three-story and theirs was two-story. The picture showed a blonde woman, partially naked, and a dark-haired man in his underwear looking up at a light. She asked him why he drew this and he stated he had seen it out of his window. So, of course, the joking began that we had been abducted or experienced some sort of time gap.

Attack of the Gray Mist by Jean
We've lived in this home for several years, 13 or so. When I was sleeping I would be awakened by something or someone getting up off the end of my bed. I could feel the mattress spring back. Then someone called my name with such authority that I jumped out of bed. The voice could have been either man or woman. There was no one there, of course, when I turned on the light. Last month was the real scare of a lifetime. I was asleep alone in the predawn hours on the right side of the bed. All of a sudden, there was a heavy weight that seemed to pounce onto the middle of my bed, causing me to tip to my right side, slipping into the indentation, turning me almost over onto my back. A firm weight pressed down on my right hip, pinning me there. I couldn't move and I don't recall saying anything. I was paralyzed with fright. However, I could see and as I looked up, there was a gray mist and the profile of a man. It did not seem familiar. The back part of the head where I should see the hair was such thin mist I couldn't tell what style or length the hair was. Same with the clothes; the mist was the thickest and whitest where the shoulders and torso would be. It seemed as though he was kneeling on the middle of the bed. He was looking straight at the corner of my room - nothing there, not even a picture. It was as if he wasn't even aware of me. In seconds or less, it was over, gone. I leaped out of bed turning on the light as I raced to the living room.

Voice from Beyond by CRT
We had an eerie experience one night just before falling asleep. My future wife saw something move past our door. Within seconds I said something that I cannot recall. It was as if someone else was speaking through me. We believe it may have been a close friend of hers, who had just died within the last year. He died in a car wreck, and she had planned to be with him that evening. Since then, she has had repeated dreams with him in them. In one such dream, he did not know that he was dead.

The Ghost Team by Evelynne R.
In 1988 we returned to my husband's family acreage outside Guthrie, Oklahoma, 35 miles due north of Oklahoma City. The area is still extremely rural, with its dirt roads, farms, and acreage. Our family has lived on this land for almost 50 years, and is the oldest continual resident in our area. The land is located on the edge of a canyon that is partially bisected by the county section line road (a section is one mile square). Driving along this road even today, one would not be surprised to meet a wagon and team of horses coming towards you. A "Washington Irving" atmosphere permeates the canyon and the road that runs through it. Two German brothers originally owned our property. Each month they would hitch up a team to their big wagon and travel into town for their big purchases, usually returning just at dusk. They had owned the better part of this section - approximately 120 of the 160 acres. They built two barns and a log home, which was still standing in 1987, the year it burned down. For sometime, my husband's grandparents lived in the old log home, adding onto it over the years until it was a two-story farmhouse. Today, the brothers still make the trip back to their farm, even though both men have been dead for quite some time. Their trips always precede a storm, usually a thunderstorm. For days, sometimes up to a week, prior to a storm, we can hear and sometimes see the team and wagon with the brothers aboard, heading south along the road in front of our home. The longer the trips continue, and the louder the sound of wagon, men, and team are, the more severe the storm will be. The sight of our former neighbors always frightens our two dogs and two cats. Though one of our dogs is blind, she still hears the ghost team, and reacts by barking at the open window. The other dog and our cats will hide under beds or covers in an effort to avoid the sight. Though it is frightening, I find some comfort in listening to the brothers as they talk to each other while unloading the wagon. Afterward, I sometimes listen to their voices as they sit on a long-gone front porch and enjoy the cool evenings of a long ago spring or summer evening. I can never clearly hear their voices, as the harder I listen, the less distinct they will be. Instead, I lay in bed with our window open and enjoy a quiet evening with two men whom I never met, but whom I consider friends.

A Glimpse of the Afterlife by Anne
In November, 1966 my husband loaded a friend and myself and three children into an almost new Chevy SportsVan and we set off for a holiday trip to "The Lake" about 150 miles from Salem, Oregon. I drove for the first part of the trip. I had been teaching all day and stayed late and was tired when I got home. I remember standing in a fully lit dining room and having the sensation of seeing through a dark tunnel, seeing only the two figures of my husband and his friend on the sofa and the light above the darkened table in the dining room. I had a desperate feeling that I did not want to go on this trip. My mother later said that she had been calling me to ask me to leave the children with her that night instead of taking them with us as she also had a sensation of impending tragedy. The highway was familiar to us. We had traveled it almost every weekend for almost five years. I drove until I was too tired to keep going and stopped at a very familiar junction to ask my husband to take the wheel. I lay down on the floor of the van as our children were sleeping on the two van seats. Our youngest son was sleeping on the floor. I woke to an eerie, high-pitched whooshing sound and I could distinguish it from the scratch of the tires on gravel where gravel should not have been. The van veered off the edge of the highway and I reached for the child at my feet when I had the sensation of a night-like dark cape being thrown across us both. I knew we were going off the edge of the road on the opposite side. Then I slowly became aware of a sensation of warmth (I was lying in a freezing creek on a rock in cold rain), with a feeling of peace and more joy than I had ever experienced. I felt absolutely no pain nor any discomfort, and I was floating in a tunnel of bright light. I quite clearly was in this tunnel of light slanting upward and at the end of it was a small figure that I knew was my son and I was floating backwards and down toward the ground while I sensed a message being transmitted to me that I was to go back, I could not come yet, that others needed me. Over all of this there was a strange high-pitched rushing humming and musical sound that did not stop until I opened my eyes. When I opened my eyes, my husband and his friend were crawling out of the van. It was several seconds or possibly minutes before they found our son's body. The child was dead. Since I already knew this, my attention was on my other children. I recall seeing my husband pick up his body outlined in the crazily slanted headlight beams of the van and having absolutely no grief. I was still in the clutches of the feeling of warmth and joy. The tunnel of light had just then faded away and I had come back down to earth. My older son climbed out of the van and pulled me off of a rock and onto the bank of the creek. I told him to climb up the embankment and to try to flag down help. I knew that my youngest child was fine and safe and was going to be taken care of. I knew also that my daughter was safe. She was unconscious when the ambulance people found her, and she also had the sensation of leaving her body. She told me that she was floating above them as they carried her up the cliff on a stretcher when one of her shoes fell off and she tried to get them to go back and find it. She wondered why they were ignoring her. I have lived almost all of the rest of my life knowing that there is a life after this life. I know what I felt and heard and saw.

Shadow Animals by Kamala
Something's strange at my mother's house. The thing I need help with is the appearance of "shadow animals." A real bird was trapped in the house. My mom released it outside. It flew away. Our dog, Casey, started following something not sensed by us in our living room. She started acting strangely and continued to sniff and bark at things that were not there. My mom sensed a bird flying over her head a couple of months after our dog started acting strangely. There was no earthly bird to be found. A "cat" has joined our home recently. My mom, my sister, and I have all "seen" it. It is like a dark shadow. I actually thought it was a cat running under the kitchen table! The last thing to join us is a "black lizard." My sister spotted it in our basement. My mom also saw it there. It was very clearly defined, not a shadow like the cat. There are no lizards around in the middle of winter where I live. They are there one-second and vanish the next. Could these "animals" be manifestations of a negative energy?

Visions in Dreams by Ray R.
I was away at college. After working out hard, physically exhausted from football practice, I returned to my dorm room and fell halfway asleep. I started to dream, and in this dream I saw my grandmother's hospital room. I also saw the members of my family who were there with her. I saw her leave her corporeal body and change into a child. I heard her message as a thought. The phone rang and woke me out of my sleep. It was my father telling me that my grandmother had just passed. There was a time differential that made this seem like just a coincidence. Then later, I was in the same state again - physically exhausted and partly asleep - when I woke with a start. I knew something horrible had just happened. I turned on the television with thoughts of thousands of people screaming in horror. There was nothing on except for a soap opera. I was about to turn off the set and go to class, but then the news broke that the Challenger had just exploded, taking the lives of the crew.

Unexplained Feelings by Christine
I have noticed two things that occur frequently to me, so much so that my friends have begun to call and ask if I "feel" anything about something going on in their lives. I "feel" things and have dreams about things that are going to happen or are already happening. For instance, my best friend called one day and mentioned her husband was sick with the flu. I stopped her and told her she needed to get him to the doctor and have his colon checked. She thought I was out of my mind, but after three weeks and his symptoms getting worse not better, she took my advice. He was diagnosed with early colon cancer. He was operated on and is fine now. But doctors did tell them had he waited another month, he would most probably be dead.

Play It Again, Grandma by Diane D.
I was in high school at the time. It was a Friday night and my whole family was at the high school game, as my brother was playing in it. I had been grounded for some reasons I can't remember now. My grandmother, who had lived with us, had passed away about two years earlier. She was the only one in our family who could play the piano. I only ever heard her play two songs. One was the "Third Man Theme." I was alone in the house and we had a basement. The piano that belonged to my grandmother was in the basement. I had been watching TV and all of a sudden, I heard the "Third Man Theme" coming up from the basement. I got shivers and was scared to death. I think my grandmother was trying to get a hold of me by doing this. I will never forget it!

He Can See the Winner by Jerry
When I am in the presence of a winning scratch-off ticket, that ticket either draws me or appears very bright. I go to the store and take a quick glance at the tickets to see if one stands out. If it does, I buy it. If it is a decent winner ($10 and up), it will actually draw me. At times, I have felt drawn to stop at particular store - often out of my way and farther away than other ticket-selling stores. Last week, for instance, I bought about 9-10 tickets. I remember at least 6 and maybe 7 or 8 winners - two of which were $30 and $88 respectively. Other tickets that won were for free tickets or for less money.

Voice on the Tape by Donna D.
I had an astrologer prepare my natal chart for me. At her home, only she and I and one other woman were present. The astrologer and I went to a separate room and closed the door for the reading. While she spoke, a tape recorder ran, preserving her words for me to listen to at my leisure. At one point we digressed from the reading to talk about our respective marriages and why we got married when we did. All during the reading, we were in a completely closed room, just the two of us, windows and doors sealed. Later, in my own home, I was listening to the tape. When it reached the point where we had discussed our marriages, I heard a man's voice say, "Don't worry about it. I wouldn't worry about it." Startled, I rewound the tape and replayed that part to ascertain if I had indeed heard what I thought I had. The voice was there, repeating the same phrases. I called the astrologer and reported what I had heard. She was equally nonplused and asked that I bring the tape to her so that she could play it for her mentor for his reaction. I took the tape to her and we listened to it again. The voice was still there. She took the tape to Dallas with her and from that time on I have not heard from her.

Vivid Visions by Mike
When I was a child, I used to have floating dreams and as I got older they became flying dreams. At first they were isolated to only around the house, then as I got older I suppose you might say I went off exploring. These dreams were fantastic and more than vivid. They were lived out with other people with what seemed as actual interactions and conversations, as well as just observing what may have been going on below me as I floated or flew. After I went to college, my dreams were more and more exacerbating. Dreams of mountains exploding and tragedies that had no meaning or understanding to me. That was until weeks and or years past and the same images in those dreams showed up on the 6 o'clock news or in my life. This was very startling and made me wonder: Was I imagining I saw or dreamed these images, or did I imagine that I imagined that this happened. One fall evening, I was walking down the railroad tracks after leaving the amusement park. All of a sudden, I had a vision of a young child disfigured, and I started to cry. My friend asked what was wrong and I refused to speak about it. My friend was persistent. I divulged the sight within my head. Well low and behold, the next day or so, in the paper, a young child had been disfigured by a dog . Whether or not any of this is coincidence only God may know, for it has all been too real for me.

Money from Heaven by Helen Q.
My oldest son and I were sitting in our living room discussing money, or the lack of it. It was a really bad time in my life. I was crying because I didn't have lunch money for my three sons' school lunches the next day and I didn't know what to do about it. I had decided to just keep them home from school. My son was 12 and hadn't missed a day all year and he was saying, "I can't miss tomorrow! I just can't!" All I needed was $3 and I couldn't even get that. We heard a noise in the kitchen and we went out to check -- and there were some quarters on the floor. I was afraid to touch them. It was the scariest thing I had ever experienced. I wanted to run out of the house but my two other kids were in bed asleep. My son finally decided to pick them up. He put them on the table. They were icy cold. There were exactly $3 in quarters. Then my son said, "It's from Grandma. She always gave me quarters." I felt so good at that very minute. I knew everything would be ok from then on. We never had to go without again. Life just seemed to come together for us after that night.

The Rocking Chair by Adam S.
When I was a little boy growing up in picturesque Southern Indiana, we lived in an old two-level farmhouse in the country. My bedroom was upstairs in a large, open loft-type set-up. One night as I climbed the stairs to my bedroom, I noticed a creaking noise coming from somewhere behind me. As I reached the top of the stairs and turned around, I saw an old rocking chair moving back and forth for no apparent reason. This aspect could be explained easily enough on its own; however, I also saw a set of knitting needles and some needlework in progress just hanging in midair. It's safe to say that it looked like a ghost rocking in a chair and knitting.

Warts and All by Jenny
I was about seven years old when I was walking down the sidewalk along a big brick building. I saw an image in my mind of an old, hideous man with warts on his face. I thought to myself, "Was this from some nightmare I'd had recently?" I didn't know why I would have pictured something like this. I continued to walk to the end of the brick building. Just as I approached the corner of the building, that same man with the same face and the same warts turned the corner of the brick building.

The Demon Under the Bed by Christopher W.
I can remember when I was in hospital and only a few days old when a man dressed in a brown suit was standing near my crib and said, "Your destiny is not yet written!" Since then I have been visited by demons and have had strange "psychic" abilities that I do not fully understand! My first encounter with a demon was when I was around 7 years old. I was always scared of the dark, so I used to sing loudly and rock myself gently until I would go to sleep. On this particular night, we had a blackout in our area and I was scared. I started singing softly and rocked myself for a little while, until the lights came back on. When the lights came back on, I stopped singing and thought I could get to sleep normally! I was wrong. A few seconds after I had stopped singing, my bed violently shook and a creature from underneath it growled viciously! I started singing and rocking myself again, this time frantically! The demon stopped shaking my bed, but continued to growl, which eventually became a purr! When I felt safe, I shouted for my parents as all little boys do, but there was no evidence of anything in the room other than me. My parents put it down to me dreaming, but I know differently!

Ghosts I Have Known by Robert J.
My wife, Sharon, and I were visiting her Aunt Greta and Uncle Chuck. It was a weekend visit that we did about once a year. They had just rented this house in Ganonaque, a small village near Kingston, Ontario. We were there only a couple of hours, having our first coffee, when I mentioned that the house felt "odd." That evening, Uncle Chuck confided that indeed they were living in a very odd house. First, you couldn't lock the front door. They would lock the door and go out only to return a short time later to find that the door was unlocked, but still closed. Second, a second-story back bedroom window was constantly being opened, even though they often secured the woodwork with a window-locking device. The window opened every time. We sat down to dinner the next evening, and Uncle Chuck said to pay particular interest to the wall thermostat. Chuck said the "friend" turned up the heat. Prior to sitting down to dinner, we set the thermostat at 68 degrees. The thermostat was on a wall that I had a perfect view of and no one went anywhere near this device. At the end of dinner, the house was very warm as the thermostat was set at nearly 85 degrees. Chuck said it happened every dinnertime. That evening, as I lay sleeping on the sofa, I saw what I thought was Uncle Chuck coming down the stairs. He turned at the living room, entered, and silently offered me a cigarette from an extended pack. I said no, having just stopped smoking for the manyith time only days before. He was dressed in a white shirt with rolled up sleeves, gray dress pants with suspenders - something that I had not seen Chuck wearing before. He turned without saying a word and walked off toward the kitchen through the dining room. It was only in the morning that to my own shock realized that I had indeed seen the house "friend." Uncle Chuck had a handsome, well-manicured mustache and the "friend" did not. Chuck said that I looked like I had just seen a ghost. When I explained that I think that is exactly what I did see, he became very agitated and went off to the basement and returned with an old faded photograph of a group of people posed on the front lawn of this house. I recognized the "friend" immediately. He was sitting in a chair near the center of the picture. Chuck asked if I noticed anything else that seemed odd about the man. I said that he had his feet placed at an odd angle and looked not relaxed at all. Chuck said that was because the legs on the man were not his. He was a double amputee. Later that day, after Chuck was finished at the base for the day, he took me into the basement and showed me the two prosthetic legs hanging from the rear wall of the house, directly under the window that would not be closed.

Telekinetic Sister by Katherine
My sister has recently been experiencing very strange incidents in which tangible objects have been flying off shelves or falling off walls with no apparent explanation. The objects are items that she has been thinking about or physically viewing. In two cases, her small children were involved. In the first case, an antique, 200-pound mirror fell off the wall of an old inn and landed on top of both her 2-1/2-year-old daughter and a friend's daughter. Fortunately, neither girl was injured in the least. Neither the paramedics nor the fireman who arrived on the scene could begin to rationalize how the mirror just happened to fall off the wall, nor how the girls escaped uninjured. The other case occurred yesterday afternoon when her husband and two sons were viewing an exhibit. The exhibit "exploded" and one of the rocks (at which she had been staring) flew across the room and hit her son in the eye, causing lacerations on his eyelid area. Once again, it was fortunate that the injuries were not greater than they were. Also, once again, no explanation was offered. Last week, she and I were in a large store near her home. Even though no one else was close by, an object lifted off a shelf and landed below. In this case, I was able to witness the occurrence firsthand. The item did not simply fall off a shelf; it rose up and then dropped down. All these incidents must sound like pure coincidence; however, I should mention that my sister is very much in tune to her inner self as well as to her environment.  She also has been under an incredible amount of stress due to extenuating circumstances.

Haunted by an Energy Field by Lana E.
I am a 41 year old female, divorced, no children. I have been in the computer hardware industry for 11 years. I am a very intelligent, realistic individual. In 1988 at the age of 29, I moved to Florida. I started my business there. This is when most of it started happening to me. I would like to list each happening by the sequence in which it happened:

  • Birthday: 10-27-58 - Born with family birthmark on my forehead that matches the mark from my father's mother, to my father, to my oldest sister and I, to my sisters two children.

  • Age10: First physic experience. Had a deep feeling of fear for my mother's life the night before she almost had a tragic accident. I was almost crying from fear. I told mom when she got home the next day and then she told me what had happened. I was so thankful she was okay.

  • Age 10-30: Over the years, mother and I always had a strange connection. We would know when the other was going to call - small things we thought happened to everyone.

  • Age 24: My father became ill with the flu in January of 1983 and was in the hospital. Along that time, I started having a very specific date that began sticking in my mind. March 9th. I thought it was someone's birthday. I kept asking my family and friends about March 9th. No one knew. My father died that day of a heart attack.

  • Age 30: I was living in Largo, Florida with Kevin, my boyfriend. My mother was visiting and my neighbors from next door were over. The door to my room was open and it slammed shut with us standing right there. The ceiling fan above my bed was controlled by a light switch. I turned it off and went to bed. Ten to 15 minutes later, it started up on its own.

  • We moved into a nice house. As soon as we moved in, everything electrical went nuts. Newly installed cable boxes quit working and my business phone erased its memory. Light bulbs burned out one right after another. I was changing them daily. Then the strangest of all occurrences started. I had two Maltese dogs. We all went to bed one night and Kevin had already fallen asleep. I was just about to when my puppy moved up into my arm pit and started growling. I was petting her when I opened my eyes and to my amazement I saw something come through the doorway and move over the bed, right over the top of our heads. I woke Kevin and he saw it also. The best description is an energy field that you could clearly see. It was moving very fast and it seemed as if it swooped right down in your face.

  • I went home for Christmas, 1990. I bought my mother a music box that played a Christmas song. We were all in the den lounging, talking, and having fun. Earlier we had been playing with the music box. Suddenly, we heard a music box start playing on its own. Naturally, we thought it was the one I bought. It was not. It was one sitting on my mother's mantle that she said she had not even moved to dust in months.

  • On April 1, 1993, my sister and I moved back to Oklahoma. I started dating a man in July and we married in September of 1994. He was a very cut-and-dried skeptic. I started to tell him once about the occurrences and could see he didn't believe me, so I left it alone and didn't say more. Then one night I was asleep, having a dream that I was paralyzed and I woke up startled. He was sitting up in the bed and asked me if I had been waving my arms above my head. I said no. He than began to tell me that there was something in the room with us. He described it. It was the energy field from Florida. He was really freaked out about it. I talked him into going to a hypnotist with me to see if we could recall any other details. The strange thing was that the hypnotist taped each of our sessions on two different tapes. Larry's recorded just fine. My tape was nothing but waves of static.

  • In January of 1997, my best friend was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 34. She had a complete hysterectomy and stayed with my sister and me during the course of her recovery. Her mother and sister and aunt all stayed at my house during this time. I had bought the house in August of 1996 and we had already experienced all of the electrical things, light bulbs, fans, televisions, etc. The night before Linda's surgery, it was about midnight when her family arrived at my house. Linda was already checked into the hospital. An antique telephone that I have, which I just have set out for looks and was never plugged into a phone jack, began to ring. We all heard it. Then we all witnessed the energy field. It had been given the name Casper by then and that is what we refer to it now.

Blessed with ESP by Karen H.
I cannot help it. I have extra-sensory perception. I've had it all my life. I do not think about it, it just happens. I am always about 10 years ahead of our time on knowing what trends will come, too. I should be a venture capitalist - I'd make a lot of money! I will be having a conversation with someone. It does not matter who the person is. I may even have just met the person. We will be talking and at a pause I will say something, and the person will look at me in great surprise, and ask me, "What are you doing, reading my mind?" The only response that I can honestly give is that yes, in a way, I am, but I did not mean to, because I do not do this consciously at all. I just know exactly what they are thinking. I know when people are lying, or even lying by omission. Therefore, I am able to tell when I cannot trust a person.

My True (Surprise) Ouija Experience by Melissa
It was at my birthday party/sleepover on August 13, 1998. I had four friends there: Ivey, Michelle, Amanda, and Jackie. We were in my basement and had just gotten done playing a card game called "Aces" or "6s" (the game where you take out the 6s or the aces and each one means either yes, no, or maybe; you ask questions and use these cards to contact spirits). Anyway, we just had gotten done when Jackie asked me if I had a Ouija board. She really likes to make me mad and she knew I had hidden mine so we couldn't play, but she asked anyway just to get a response from everyone else, and of course they all cheered and wanted to play. Just looking at that board makes me sick. I went to my room to get the stupid thing and I had Amanda come with me; there was no way was I was getting that board alone. I got it and went back down to the basement where everyone had all set up, but they were doing everything wrong. When you do Ouija, you are not - I repeat not - supposed to use black candles. I mean, come on! Duh! That's just asking for a bad experience. So there they were, black candles lit and all, and to make things worse, everyone was sitting east-west, when everyone knows if you sit north-south it brings good spirits. So I was like, okay, okay, what bad could it do? I mean, it was made by Parker Brothers; it was just a game. Huh! Little did I know! Ivey was taking notes, writing down all the letters. Okay, so my sister was all into this weird stuff, so she gave me some prayers. We said the prayers and immediately we all felt chills. Michelle even screamed, which caused a chain reaction of screams. We were all really scared already and Michelle wanted to stop, but I'm sure there was some kind of consequences for leaving, so she stayed. The rest of the story will be told in the way we first experienced it. I still have the notes Ivey took:

MELLISSA: Hello? Are you with us, spirit?
(Just felt cold chill. This is creepy.)
BOARD: YES
(Melissa looks at Jackie, almost accusing her without words.)
JACKIE: What?
MELISSA: Nothin'
MELISSA: Spirit, can you see us?
BOARD: W-(5 seconds pass)
JACKIE: Can you see us?
BOARD: W-H-(Stops) -Y
MELISSA: Because we want to know if you can see us.
BOARD: YES I CAN SEE U M G
(M.G? Oh! Melissa Garcia)
(Michelle looks scared)
MICHELLE: Okay, who is moving it?
JACKIE: Michelle, no one is. Now shush.
(Michelle takes a deep breath. She seems scared.)
MELISSA: How do you know my name?
BOARD: I KNOW ALL
(Melissa seems mad; looks at Jackie.)
JACKIE: What is your name?
BOARD: FREDARICK-(stop) -O'CONNER
(Crap! A candle went out! The only white one.)
MELISSA: Ivey, light that candle again.
(5 minutes later, I tried to light it, but every time I tried, it would go out.)
(Back to game)
MICHELLE: Are you evil?
BOARD: YES
(We all look at each other.)
(Melissa looks at Michelle. Michelle's eyes are closed and not moving.)
MELISSA: Michelle, are you okay?
(No response from Michelle.)
AMANDA: Michelle?
JACKIE: Michelle?!
MICHELLE: (raises her head, opens her eyes) Yes.
AMANDA: Is something wrong?
MICHELLE: No, not at all.
(This is getting weird.)
MELISSA: Spirit, will you leave us, please?
BOARD: N (stop) -O-O-O-O
JACKIE: Please!
BOARD: W-H-Y?
(Michelle just collapsed!)
(Later. Michelle won't wake up. It's been two minutes, I think.)
MELISSA: What did you do to Michelle?
BOARD: MICHELLE OH MICHELLE SHES JUST CONDRAP MANURA TRUE DVOUN KEVAUT
AMANDA: What are you saying?
(Michelle gets up, walks to the phone, pulls out the cord.)
JACKIE: Michelle, what are you doing?
MICHELLE: CONDRAP MANURA TRUE DVOUN KEVAUT.
MELISSA: What does that mean?!?
(Michelle walks to the cards, picks them up, chants again. The cards fly in the air as Michelle throws them! Crap! Oh, my God!)
MICHELLE: (Weird chanting.)
MELISSA: Spirit, please stop this!
(Michelle is still chanting loudly.)
(I told Melissa to do something.)
MELISSA: What do you want me to do?
JACKIE: Say a prayer or something!
(Cards are spinning around us.)
MELISSA: Protect this house, the people who have been here... our stay... realm in name... light. Thank you. Amen.
(Whoa! Everything just stopped. Michelle is on the floor. Amanda and Melissa are hugging. Jackie is still amazed. Lights flicker on. Candles blow out.)

That was recorded word for word on the paper by Ivey. We all ran over to Michelle and woke her up. Her eyes were not dilating, and the only thing she could say was, "CONDRAP MANURA TRUE DVOUN KEVAUT"... but in a good way this time. "Michelle, what does that mean?" Jackie asked.

"It means, uh... book... closet... look." Michelle fell back asleep. The only closet downstairs was my sister's, so I went to go look. I never remembered having books in there, but right there was a book! I opened it, and in it was a happy birthday note from my sister, saying she was sorry for not being able to be there. I came back to the room and there all of them were - laughing. They had all set me up.
