Spooky Ghost Light
by Sharon K.

I never heard of the term "ghost light" until my new husband told me about the one that is near Joplin, Missouri called the Hornet Spooklight. Since we live near Joplin, I intend to make the short drive to see if this light is anything like the one I once observed near Bourbon, Missouri. I was, at the time, one of Jehovah's Witness, and if you know anything about Witnesses, they do not believe in any kind of paranormal phenomena. Therefore, when I saw this "thing" in the sky just in front of me, I certainly was not going to tell any of my Witness friends. I would have been seen as lying or told it was a Satanic vision. And until this day, I have told no one other than my brother.

This light appeared to me on Old 66 between Sullivan and Bourbon, Missouri when I was heading home (west) on Old 66 from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, which is about two miles west of Sullivan. It appeared to me out of no where and it seemed to be about 20 feet above me, but approximately 100 degrees in front of my windshield. Therefore, I was able to see this object very clearly. So clearly that I will NEVER forget it!

This light appeared to be the size of somewhere between that of a soft ball and a basketball and was a pale yellow although it was very bright. It continued just in front of me at about the same distance, although at one time it seemed to be over me instead of in front of me. Needless to say, I was scared half to death and nearly ran off the road looking for it. I know it was not a headlight as it was much too high and that road is quite flat through that area. It wasn't an airplane either because it was too clear and too close. I was anxious to get home, which seemed like an eternity but actually, this whole ordeal lasted less than ten minutes and maybe only five minutes. When I got to the stop sign in Bourbon, which is only a couple blocks from home, I didn't want to stop (and barely did), but when I did, the light took an unexpected move. It darted to the north at an unbelievable speed across I-44 and disappeared behind the trees. It did leave a light trail. I do not know if I was more scared of the situation or sorry the experience was over.

By the time I got home, I actually questioned my own beliefs that paranormal phenomena did not exist! And the fear disappeared as I left my car although I did look up to see if I could see that light again, but it wasn't there. I use to travel that road between Bourbon and Sullivan many times a week and I never saw that light again and until I heard about this spook light in Joplin, Missouri, I had put this memory behind me.
